I know dextrose in your post-workout shake is good, but what about dextrose in every shake? I drink 3 shakes per day, and I was wondering if having dextrose in each of them would be beneficial or not.

Beneficial, hmmmm, what's the goal? Fat gain? If so, then I'd say go ahead and do it.

The "benefit" of dextrose in a post workout shake is to create an insulin spike so as to shuttle the protein to your very hungry muscle cells. In essence, you're taking advantage of your body's metabolic state after you work out. I doubt you have 3 "post-workout" shakes, as I doubt you work out 3 times a day. Just because it is a shake does not mean you should put dextrose in it. If you need the added calories, then go for it, but there are, of course, better choices out there.

So does adding the dextrose turn the shake into a weigh-gainer supplement, basically?

I guess you could say that, although many weight gainers these days at least "claim" to contain low GI carbs.

Basically, without being an ass this time, taking dextrose any time other than post-workout (or maybe pre-workout too) is a bad idea.

what about adding maltodextrin with my protein postwork out.. my goal is to finish with my cut.. someone told me to stack maltodextrin and dextrose with my protein shake for postworkout.. doesn't really make much sence b/c maltodextrin digests slowly and dextrose digests quickly, they are both complex carbs so im not sure how that would benefit somebody.. correct me if im wrong..

malto and dext are super similar. Malto might digest a hair slower but nothing meaningful.
people say to take both so you get a 1-2 insulin spike. Its overkill and not anything to be overly concerned with. If you can get both then go for it, if not dont worry about it your probably not missing anything.
Also I dont think dex is complex, and malto barely classifies as complex...

Beast add oats to your other shakes during the day. That is complex carbs low GI. Perfect WeightGainer IMHO.

Sounds good, Matt.

Agreed.

Another option is to add oil (flax or olive) to your shakes. Just depends if you want more carbs or fats.

Why dont you add a couple of donuts and an ounce of maple syrup in your shakes. You'll get a monster insulin spike and a generous amount of carbs and fat to keep you going staight up into the huge boys category.

Also mixing protein shakes with dextrose tastes horrible.

As the others say use dextrose only for post workout and stick to eadable carbs or at least quality meal replacements around your training.
