View Full Version : Drinking a gallon of milk each day... Would it work?

If my target daily caloric intake is 2500, and there's about 2000 in a gallon of 2% milk, would drinking that much each day (plus 500-600 from another source) work to bulk?

It seems too simple.. What are the negative effects of doing this? Anyone ever tried it?

Anyways, just an idea..

thanks

Lactose = sugar.
how many cups in a gallon? I know theirs about 8 grams of protein in a cup of 2% milk.

16 cups in a gallon I think.. The breakdown would be

35%/39%/27% (fat/carbs/protein).

75/187/130 grams (fat/carbs/protein)

I suppose you could, but you mite want to start maybe half a gallon at first, and then see how you react because you need the fibers and starches too, I don't know the carb breakdown of milk, is the carbs just the lactose?

Any diet that doesn't have at least "some" variety isn't healthy.

I used to drink a gallon of milk a day for about 6 years. I was really healthy. Then I hit 14 and became lactose intolerant out of the blue. If you can handle the lactose and you get enough food with a whole gallon of milk a day, then go for it if it works.

You drank a gallon of milk a day when you were 8-14 ??

I know that if I could only eat 500-600 calories of "real food" everyday and had the rest in a liquid form, I'd be pretty damned hungry.

apparently calories arent the only thing your body uses to tell your youre full. Weight is too..If you eat a heavy, but calorie light food, your body will thinks ur more full then if you eat a light calorie light food..

Sorry, 1 gallon of milk a day is stupid and a waste if you are trying to bulk.

Instead, use a cup of milk 3 times a day mixed with peanut butter, ice cream, and protein mix and maybe a few other things and you can make yourself a 1000 calorie shake easily. 3 of those a day is 3000 calories and its healthy with a lot of calcium, protein and monounsaturated fats. Drinking your calories for a bulk is also easier than eating. You should still eat chicken breasts and steak for the extra calories and protein though

i find that ridiculously hard to believe

1. it would be possible as long as your stomach could handle it

2. but getting only 500 calories from food would probably make you deficient in a number of vitamins, minerals, fibre, etc. and leave you hungry

3. although low glycemic, lactose does produce an insulin response so that might be a concern

why? i've heard of people developing lactose intolerance later in life, and as far as drinking a gallon a day that's not entirely uncommon either. i drink anywhere from 5 - 7 gallons fat free weekly and am in peak shape

What do you use to gauge the healthiness of an 8 year old?

im not questioning whether or not he developed an intolerance to lactose at 16 , im questioning whether or not he downed a gallon of milk daily at the age of eight

So when you were 8 you were getting 2000 calories a day from milk? Yeah that story sounds believable. In other news I've been working on cloning myself by using nothing but a rusty soup tin and a bowl of pickles. So far I've made 3 identical clones of myself and plan for more, but my supermarket stopped carrying Vlassic pickles and those seemed to be the only kind that worked. That wouldn't be much of a problem if I hadn't sold my car a while back to let them use in the filming of some movie series..The Future is Back or whatever it's called..don't think it ever became popular, but god do I miss that Delorean some days.

PSMF :( All I can think about is food all day long, and I can never have any. I'm doing my carb load on the 29th so I have a list of the things I want to eat. LOL

I don't see what's theoretically wrong with his plan (granted he take some efa's, vit/mineral caps)

All you need for muscle growth is a surplus of calories and a positive nitrogen balance, right?

Diet choices include both a bodybuilding and a health perspective.

Hmm... throw in a couple of multi-vit's and that's all you need :D

vitamins and minerals in a pill do not work if they are not being ingested without food for example...in most cases nutrients are absorbed best from foods in whihc they are dispersed among other ingredients that facilitate their absorption. In contrast nutrients takien in pure, concentrated form are likely to interfere with the absorption of other nutrients. ex:zinc hinders copper and calcium absorption
