Okay i know that i cannot just mix up a bunch of whey and keep it in my fridge, but i'm wondering how companies make the premade rtd's w/ protein. Is there a different type of whey used or what? I ask because i got a bunch of free (almost, like .50$ each) isopures, and i find it real convenient to just have a chug every time i'm in my kitchen, at times where i wouldn't bother / need a full shake, but i think it's cool to be able to get like 5-10 grams here and there throughout the day.

Water alone won't hydrolize polypeptides but certain proteolitic bacteria etc can and do digest the peptides/amino acids in whey, that's why you can't really keep a shake too long even in the fridge. RTD's are pasteurized to prevent that, and they probably also contain preservatives.

The difference over a few hours will probably be negligible. You wouldn't, however, want to leave it until the following day.
Easy way to tell if you waited to long is to taste it and see if it has a funky taste to it.
