Well this is my first post here, found these forums through google lol. Been reading alot of threads for about an hour and figured I would ask my questions since nothing really nailed down an answer for me just yet.

Some history: Have not "seriously" lifted in 8 years now. 8 years ago I was your atypical hardcore 21 year-old gym freak. Ate like a maniac, used gear, tried every supplement under the sun etc etc...sure you have heard the story before.

Well its 8 years a wife and two kids later. I have no interest in trying more gear as my health is rather important to me now and providing for the family.

Back in the day I used to buy Met-Rx(sp?) by the case, along with a bunch of whey protein cans and various supplements. It was rather hard to tell what was working with the gear involved so my evaluation of those products is rather suspect at best.

What I would like to know after reading a few threads here is: What is a good mid-day/after-dinner shake that doesn't taste like crushed up chalk, something in line with what MetRx was/is? I have read alot of information about prohormones from the various experiences of folks here. My initial thought is that some of these are just as dangerous as the real gear out there and just like real gear everyone is having differing results based on their body chemistry. Also I am thinking that if I do decide to test some of these out its at least 3-4 months away realistically before I would even consider it in order to get my base built back up. I have no real questions on these atm since I want to do more research myself first.

Basically I am now at the point where I am lethargic and out of shape in terms of energy and strength. Thankfully I have been blessed with a decent metabolism that hides my lack of weight training over the past years.

Sorry if this was a bit much in terms of info, first post jitters I suppose. Thanks in advance for any advice, recommendations, experiences you might share.

Jim

I think it would be useful to everyone if you would post your current stats, goals, routine, diet, etc. etc.

I think it would be useful to everyone if you would post your current stats, goals, routine, diet, etc. etc.

Currently I am around 215 at 5'9". Highest weight during peak training was 240, then dropped to 185 after 8 weeks of basic military training lol. Measurements I have yet to take, waist size is approx 36". Bodyfat measurements aren't yet taken, will definately get them tho measure some progress prior to beginning a routine(likely around 18% at the moment).

Goals would be 32" waist, maintaining 205-210 weight at 11-12% bodyfat.

Standard routine that worked well for me in the past was:
Day1: Chest/Bi's
Day2: Quads/Calves
Day3: Back/Tri's
Day4: Ham's/Calves
Day5: Abs/Cardio
Day6: Off Day
Restart routine w/ Day1.

Took me a very long time to find a routine that promoted growth, which is something I know alot of people commonly struggle with. Likely I will have to add more cardio in there to get into shape, that was more of a workout centered strictly around growth. That routing will allow me to generate the muscle mass I once had, I just have to find a balance to maintain moderate sharpness.

Likely going back to my original diet of 6 medium size meals over the course of a day. 2-3 of those meals will be a protein/supplement shake of some sort w/ some fruit. Carrying 240 on my 5'9" frame wasn't very comfortable but it was what I thought I wanted at the time. Diet was something I was always experimenting with to avoid burnout stuffing my face with the same food over and over. Maintaining a certain caloric intake and protein intake was the ultimate goal, sometimes at the expense of too many carbs/fatty foods.

All in all I think the only real question I have is what supplemental drinks/meals are rated the most effective these days. I have hit a few websites to view some of the better sellers out there and it looks like Met-RX is still around as well. Would just keep doing more research to find the best value for the dollar and feedback from folks here.

Welcome aboard I just found this site about a month ago myself, went through simular thing as you, the family life really changes things. I'm 41 now been working out since high school off and on doing it hardcore for 8 years now(got to slow the sands of time). But anyway protein shake have come along way, there's some good flavors out there. As well as PH's. Gone through many cycles of PH no real big results but I sure love that consistant pump fealing. Saw your routine and its alot different that what I do. I like the opposing muscle routine chest/tri , off , back/bi , off ,shoulders/abs/forearms , off , legs/core. Been doing that routine for about 4 years. Alot of good info now days on the internet its helped me alot as well as having some very knowledgable gym owners I've been to. Good luck.........
