Hey guys, do you all have any favorite or best post workout high carb drink to have with your Whey Shake? I heard CarboForce is good, does anyone else know any others??? And if you can't buy a pre mixed carb drink, could I just add some plain old dextrose to my whey shake???

Some good ol' fashioned dextrose will do ya right. It's cheap as hell, too. You can get an 11 lbs bucket for $10 from Supplementdirect.com

2nd that, Dextrose is good stuff
yup, frozenmoses's is right.
Either dextrouse or malto.
You can get carboforce or whatever their called but you'd be paying 95% just for the label. Look at the ingrediants on it. Should be 99.9%dextrouse or malto, therefor save your extra cash for food

If Dex is the same basic thing as sugar, couldnt you just put a bunch of sugar in your shake?

Why take dextrose and not a protein shake after a workout?

My question is this, if I am on cutting diet, why do I need to take in all these carbs and sugar. I thought the idea of a cutting diet was to lose excess fat and gain lean muscle??

if you take gatorade make sure you get the powdered mix rather then the already bottled gatorade.

Another question, will I be ok with just dextrose or should I mix it with Meltrodextrin?
mixing is up to you, dextrous is sweet so to make is less sweet stick some malto in.

So its basically personal preference??? So theres no advantage or disadvantage to mixing it or not?
Pretty much, if you wanted go get all techniqual its suppose to be better doing a 50/50blend, but the difference would be minute. I think they have the same GI though.

there is on evidence on the 50/50 malto dextrose thing... but ya same GI so either you want it sweet or not so sweet...
I like how eating something sweet or that will transfer into your blood stream after a hard workout lets you stay up like 3 more hours becuse you're not dead tired when you get home :) . What about gatorade, guys? It has some sugar and gets to you fast.

Dextrose is not the same thing as "sugar". Dextrose is glucose, which is the preferential carbohydrate for muscle tissue. Table sugar is sucrose, which is a disacharide consisting of a glucose molecule and a fructose molecule. The fructose is preferentially taken by the liver for glycogen. If the liver is basically full (as it will be in most well-fed lifters), then that fructose is more likely to be stored as fat. Even if it isn't stored as fat, it'll be slower to be taken in by the muscles as it has to be converted to glucose. In a during or post-workout situation, speed is of the utmost importance.

You want amino acids and glucose in your blood stream all throughout the workout. Make up a whey/dextrose shake, drink half of it beforehand, the rest after. :)

Is the dextrose the same that you can pick up from the bulk barn stores to the tub you can buy from supplementscanada for $10? I've just been getting it from the bulk barn, really cheap, but now I'm starting to think it's not the right stuff. Any thoughts?
I've been dumping the dex in with my protien powder for my post workout shake since I read it here a while back

Splenda has no calories. It would be pointless.
