how many grams of fat should I eat a day

Am I allowed to eat a choclate bar?
potato chips?

I know it depends on how much you weigh and exercise but I want a rough idea

fitday is free, dietorganizer is better IMHO but is 30$, a well spent 30$ that is.

1 g of fat = 9 calories.
if your not counting your calories these numbers are meaningless other than to ballpark.
If your diet is 3000 calories and you want 30% from fat that would be 1k calories or 111g of fat.
1 tbsp of fat is 14g.

Get as much mono and poly as possible. (over 15g ideally)
As little Sat as possible (under 15g ideally)
Also, foods might list a total fat of say 10g and have a sat and mono/poly that dont add up to that 10g, this is because the food contains other fats that aren't on nutritional labels, such as trans fats and hydrogenated fats, which are the worst of the worst.

it tracks more information and has better views and graphs, it allows cutting and pasting day to day (saves time), and in general has a lot more features.
Its got a free 10 day trial download, give it a whirl.

When people recommend 20-30% of your daily calories from fat, it's generally assumed that the fats are going to be of reasonable quality. Have a chocolate bar or a bag of chips once in a while, but neither should be staples in your diet.
