Of course you don't need cardio to lean out as long as you burn more calories than you consume...

However you can achieve a greater physique and usually faster.

What you described is like intervals session, which is ace as far as weight loss is concerned,so don't worry 'bout the flatness,it's ok.After consuming some carbs you'll be ok.

you can get lean without cardio. Though cardio will help you get lean easier.
I would do as much cardio as my recovery system will allow. As unlike when bulking, maintaining your powers of recovery are decreased.
though if you like do 3 sessions of cardio of like 400kcals in 30 minutes. then over a week thats 1,200 kcals. In 3 weeks that enough kcals to burn 1 pound of fat. so if you are taking your time eg ten weeks. then you will have burned a extra 3 pounds of fat off your body.
then on top of your weight loss from the diet will help give a good degree of noticeable change to your appearance.

Though this level of cardio may make you more catabolic than you desire on the other hand, so may strip more muscle than you want.

If you are getting flat from one cardio session per week then I would suggest you stop and take a serious look at your diet.

One session is not enough to get you lean, and is certainly not enough to make you look flat enough to comment about it.

The thoughts that I come to mind without looking at photos is that you do not have enough muscle under the fat and your focus should be redirect to lean mass gains.

If you have a photo feel free to email it to me and I can give you better thoughts if you want them. also put your diet up and let us have a look

that's cuz your pride is getting in the way.

she actually has a very valid point. 1 cardio session shouldn't make you flat, and if you are training for the "pump" as you put it, you are ego-lifting.

what, so you'd quite happily spend 60 minutes doing curls with 10lbs in each hand as long as it feels good?

What exactly are your goals?

reso

Yes and No..
I am competing in April- so yes in full gear with diet and mentally and training.. So I guess, yes.. although going slow so I don't lose all that I have gained in this past year off...

Should be some fun photos this spring and a BIG WIN.. I am playing hard this year, no doubt.

It's good for this site to have you back again. Few people can give real suggestion and know of what they are talking about like you. Don't take seriously what a kid like reso is saying.

Keep pumping !
