Last night i weighed myself for the first time in about a month. I was shocked when I saw 240 on the scale. I had been 225ish in september. I dont know if i put on more fat or put on muscle. I know my chest has gotten bigger with some muscle along with my back. But 15lbs? How can I tell?

Measurements and your waist.

If you look in the mirror and don't cringe too much, I'd say you put on muscle. =)

If you look fatter, you're putting on fat, if you look more muscular, you're putting on muscle.

You're gaining weight too quickly for it to be mostly muscle, so likely you put on quite a bit of fat. 15lbs in one month (but why did you say you were 225 in September but hadn't stepped on the scale in a month when its the end of November now?) naturally probably means at best you put on 7-8lbs of muscle and 7-8 lbs of fat. Also, haven't you been cutting for the last few months? If so, why are you gaining weight so rapidly?
