My financee and I are planning to go for 2 weeks in February, not sure where yet, it will be a last minute decision.
I am curious as to what I can expect as far as hotels with gyms go. I am also in the middle of a cutting diet and and curious about protein suppliments and stuff like that. I am pretty sure I won't be able to stick to my diet 100% but I am not interested in throwing all my progress out the window either.
I am hoping to be able to keep working out and eating properly while I am there, what are my chances?

I lived in the Puerto Vallarta area for about a year. I dont know if any hotels have gyms there because I was staying in a house. However, there's a Gold's gym in PV for about 650 pesos/month..about 65 dollars. There is a gym right outside PV, about a 10-15 minute drive from the PV hotel district. They charge 250 pesos/month. I happen to know the owner of that gym and it's slowing going under. She'd probably let you workout for free. As for food..they're not as strict with nutritional labels over there so its sort of a guessing game. Cottage cheese is damn near unheard of. You can get it at the main grocery store in pv pretty often though. You'll just have to know what youre after. Send me a PM if you need any more help.

Cancun is where it's at. Went there two times in the last 2 years and really had a blast. Although, I am just a young buck, the night life is pretty sweet. As for gyms, the oasis I stayed at had a small gym, nothing too fancy but worked out ok. Cancun is where I would reccommend...

It's all green, and hot, and dodging time share salesman
Been to and frequent Monterrey quite often. You can pretty much find anything that you'd find in the states there...and then some. Their grocery stores are the same (HEB, Super WalMart, Costco, and Sams) and their fast food places are the same. Monterrey has a pretty healthy lifestyle. You can work out at Club Alpino (Chipinque). It's a little pricey but it has very nice facilities. There's also several Gold's.

Thanks for the responses. Like I said I am not sure where we are going yet but now I have some ideas where we should go. LOL I can handle 1 week without working out but two is too many. I will just have re-design my diet once I get down there and see what is available.
I am wondering if I can take my whey powder on the plane with me, that and my olive oil.?

I've been to Playa Del Carmen, and my sister worked their aswell, as her bf, who's living in our house right now. I've stayed at Iberostar playa paraisio(sp), aswell as Iberostar Tucan, I didn't check out the gym at Paraiso, but Tucan gym had a bench some heavy dumbells lotsa good stuff, their was some big guys working out their. Great hotels good entertainment all inclusive.

My sentiments exactly. Take a vacation and give your body a rest. One of the best things you can do for your progress is take a week or two off once a year.

Yes.
The best advice I can give you: make sure to drink the water down there. Straight out of the tap - best tasting stuff you'll ever drink. None of that nasty purification stuff they put in our water here in the US of A.
Drink as much water as you can and eat the seafood whenever you get the chance - you'll thank me.

That's great advice Gyno. I drank the water when I was in Rosarito last year (making coffee) and never felt better. My poo wasn't solid for six weeks. What a great way to evacuate your bowels. No strain, no pain. Just blew right through me. Mmmmmm, love that Mexican water.
I miss those big ass poops you would always let go when you where like 10-15years old, just plain old good sized stuff, out quick, and done with it. Now Its always 3 kinds a different types that comes out and you gotta back twice.

You are probably right but it's 2 weeks and I JUST started to cut and loose weight. I want to drop 25-30lbs by April so I am hoping to not gain a bunch while on holidays. I would hate to throw all my progress out the window in a matter of two weeks.

No problem with te whey powder. I pack mine into ziplock bags and I've never had a problem from Canada to U.S. I wouldn't think Mexico would be an issue either.

I've been to Cozumel too :DSitting on the beach with your family for 1 day off a cruise isn't really considered 'visiting' Cozumel.

Depends on where you're planning to spend your days. If you choose a beach or a big city ( Mexico city, Guadalajara, Leon, Monterrey, Puebla, etc. ) you would not have any problem finding a good gym and plenty of stores to buy healthy food. Otherwise, if your idea is to visit small towns for and anthropological vacation, bring all your stuff with you. Big cities in Mexico in general, has all to offer as in the states.
