Getfit, CoCoa, Ryuage, BigMase and Chomer: Cheers, people! Thanks for posting in here. I'm starting to realise what a valuable resource WBB (and its people) has/have been to me. Without you guys, I'd still be going to the gym once or twice a week, and curling and benching every time, and maybe throwing in the odd leg press or extension a couple of times a month. And getting next to zero results. And it was such a chance thing that I found this site, too....

Ok well today I did arms again, but I missed it last week so they really needed it.

ARMS/SHOULDERS
================================================================

MILITARY PRESS:
20kg x 8
35kg x 3
40kg x 5
40kg x 5
Didn't do any better than the last time. But that was two weeks ago.

DB SHOULDER PRESS:
40's x 7!
40's x 7!
(+1R)

CABLE LATERAL RAISE:
3p x 6
3p x 7! (+1R)

CG BENCH:
40kg x 6
50kg x 3
65kg x 1
65kg x 4
60kg x 7
There's a huge weight difference between a couple of the plates on the rack on the bench. I noticed it last week. Today as I was doing the first rep of the 65kg, I almost lost it because of it. There're four plates in total on the rack, and I think they're from two different batches, or something - even though they're all the same brand and supposed weight. Anyway, I fixed it up after this by using the other plate. But it's dangerous. There must be at least a 2 - 3kg difference between them.

CABLE TRI PUSHDOWNS:
13p x 6
(Almost)-Super Mase Dropset:
One-arm Reverse Grip:
6p x 4
5p x 6
4p x 8
I'd never tried reverse-grip pushdowns before, and also never tried these one-armed. How better to do it than all at once? :)

OLY BB CURLS:
27.5kg x 6
27.5kg x 6
27.5kg x 5

CABLE CRUNCHES:
10p x 6
14p x 8
15p x 8! (+1P)
15p x 7

DB SHRUGS:
75's x 8
75's x 11!

I haven't felt such a wicked pump in my arms for months.

Coke: Thanks man. Yeah that was a bit of a pain, but that's ok. Sometimes it's good resting for a bit.

Getfit: Cheers. Yeah I like them too. But not as much as deadlifts.

Mase: Is that an Aussie expression? I've never heard it before :) Thanks anyway!

Cripsta: Well, I guess it's a lot of different exercises... but there's really only two working sets per exercise, with the exception of the curls. (And the dropset). I don't actually know what works best yet, I'm still experimenting.

However, I must be doing something right, because I weighed myself in a Target store today (because I don't have a scale) on a conveniently-unwrapped scale, and I'm up to 95kg!! (~210lbs!!) I'm pretty happy about that. I talked to my mum today and she said "How big do you want to get? What's your goal?" So I said "I don't know. At this stage, as big as possible." And then she started going on about how she doesn't think that's a good idea, because "it's hard to lose weight." But I'm certainly not taking advice from her.
I can feel it - I'm growing again, and if I keep going the way I'm going, I'm going to be BIG. BIG=fun.

Chomer: Whoa, no one's ever called me that before! :) However, I think I'm still a long way from being 'jacked.' 210lbs has to go a long way on my frame...

Coke: Thanks man, but I'm not finished yet :)

Getfit: Thanks! I didn't mind that one, either... :)

Ryuage: Yeah, I'm doing them for my lats. But up until recently, my form still wasn't that great, and I'm only just starting to be able to focus on using my lats more. (Maybe they were too weak before, so I couldn't really use them much, or something). I don't know, really.

Coke: Thanks man. I think it would help if I had a spotter, too. I just don't really want 70kg sitting on my chest...

Chomer: What makes you say that? I'm still basically following a modified version of WBB1, so I guess it should be ok.

Mase: Haha, ok. That was a cool expression, anyway :) And thanks.

Today, my dad found an octopus lying on the sand at the edge of the water (there's a big, flat tidal plain here). It was missing a couple of legs, but it was still alive. If we find another one, we might get an aquarium and have a pet octopus.

65kg x 5
Damn, didn't beat my last week's effort. However, I realised that I was in fact lifting 65kg last week as well, while I reported it as 60kg. Must have been some sort of mental block. The little doohickeys that stick onto the ends of the bar to hold the plates on are 2.5kg each, and I forgot to add them.

GM's:
52.5kg x 5
52.5kg x 9!

STANDING CALF RAISE:

Bumped the weight up a bit. I don't think I'm straining enough on these yet.
Probably why my calves are still small....

HACK SQUATS:
65kg x 6!
65kg x 4

LYING LEG CURLS:

Awesome.

Also, we finally have what appears to be a working washing machine. The guy brought us a new ("new") one, and he started it up, and it was all going fine, and then the pump wasn't pumping water. Anyway, he pulled it apart, and a cane toad had crawled up the drain hole and gotten mutilated in the pump. Such stupid animals, really.

This was a pretty awesome workout. I worked in on bench with Otto (the gym owner), so I finally had a spotter. Also, he showed me how to do the crunches better (I was using too much ROM, when it's far more effective to use smaller ROM).
And I asked him about his circus time, and he said he used to pull 3000 lbs (a horse) up ladders 3x a day some days for training. Which is pretty amazing.

My arms feel like inflated balloons.

I weighed myself on a really cheap-looking scale in a store today, and it only said around 92-93 kg. So, I don't know which scale is right, or whether I've lost weight.

Ok well there was plenty of crazy partying in Sydney, and then we headed down to Canberra and now I'm in Melbourne. Off to Canada on the 13th. Should be cool. Might even catch some of you there for a workout. Sorry I haven't been posting in any of your journals (for those of you who still bother to read this, because I'm sure you can't be bothered when I don't read yours!!) but internet is pretty expensive when you have to go to cafes. So, once I get settled in a bit more in Van, I'll be back to my old ways :)
Hope you're all training hard and keeping it real.

Well as you can see folks, I've had to convert to the dark side of weight measurement, at least for awhile. All the plates here are marked in pounds and kilograms, but they're made as pound-plates, rather than kilogram-plates, so they're weird weights like 20.4kg each and stuff. So, I'm going to have to get used to it.
Can't wait to get back into the PR's. This sucks having to claw back up.

The dumbells at this gym have no weights written on them. I don't know how much some of the little bits on the end of them weigh, nor do I know how much the bars themselves weigh. So, because no one puts them back in the right place on the racks, the ones I used could have weighed as much as 40lb each. Who knows....

Stack next time. This wasn't too hard.

Good session my man,if you feel your arms are lagging (which is pretty common among us taller guys) hit them twice a week for a while and if I can be so bold as to suggest swapping to a Bicep/Tricep workout. (My arms still aren't where I want then BUT they are much better when I work them bicep/tricep) and do the back/chest split.

TTT

Getfit: I hope so! ;) It shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

Mix: Well, they'll take a bit of getting used to. In actual fact, I think they feel heavier - the 0.4kg extra on each 45lb plate must make a difference.

Mase: Thanks man! Yep, all's well. Although I have to do yesterday's session today.

Canadian Steve: I'm still here! I'll be here awhile. It's pretty good thanks. A bit busier than I'm used to though. Seems like everyone's trying to drag you around to do stuff, and they're all bound by their calendars and timetables. Totally different lifestyle to what I'm used to.

Coke: Hehe, thanks man. I'll have to download that sometime and see if I like it. I haven't been as many places as he has, though. :)

Wikked: Thanks for the advice dude. I'm actually thinking of switching up the routine soon anyway. So you're saying do a chest/back split, and then legs on a third day? And then another day with just arms? So it's like a 4-day split?

Ok I'm off to the gym very soon. If it's open. Damned public holidays (I guess I won't be saying this when I start working again)... I can't remember what the one yesterday was, but the gym shut early.

This session felt good and intense, despite the decidedly crap pullups and mediocre DB presses. The gym was full. Not much space. There was a girl stretching against the wall who could put her head up to her knee with her leg upright against the wall. There was a guy who I saw for the second time doing what could only be described as full-stack yanks on the cable machine. There was a guy doing dumbell lateral-raise-curls. There was a guy doing sternum crackers. **** me, I should have been a poet.

Yeah man that's the split. For me it works much better that the BBing standard chest/tri and Back/bi thing. The one thing I must alwasy do is keep a minimum of 2 days in between delt/traps and the chest/back otherwise the second one suffers. But that's me,I say you keep trying something until you find what works best for you and go nuts!

Getfit: Thanks! Yeah, the golfing was great. Got a few pars in, and the standard few writeoffs as well. Good fun though. I managed to lose only one ball the whole round, so I impressed myself :)

Coke: Cheers man! You think two sets is too many? I don't know... They were pretty light...

Wikked: Okay I might try inventing some sort of routine like that soon. Thanks for the help. I'm still gaining weight and muscle on this program, so I'll ride it out till it slows right down (if it slows right down). It might do that once I reach the level I was at before I started travelling again.

Mase: Thanks dude. Yeah I guess I will. The weights are actually slightly heavier, so it makes sense that I'll be able to do less.

Went to Whistler on Thursday. Just got back today (Sunday). I've been travellin' again (no surprises there)! ;)
It was pretty good up there. There was a mountain bike comp on, and we watched a few of the crazies coming down the mountain. One guy did a backflip with a handlebar spin in it. At least two fell off this wooden rail/jump/track stunt setup in the middle of town and injured themselves.
I've never personally seen so many good-looking girls in one concentrated area before, in my entire life. And everyone is absolutely dog-crazy. Amazing. It's like a totally different sub-culture. We just sat on a bench for about an hour watching the people (and their dogs, many of which were dressed up like Christmas presents) go by.

Today I went to a Rodin exhibition at the art gallery, which was pretty cool. I probably got more out of it for having an increased knowledge of human musculature and anatomy from bodybuilding.

Those parallel-to-ground BB rows kick incredible amounts of ass. I think they're better than pullups for my lats, I've never felt the same level of lat DOMS as I have now.

I might put update pics up in here soon, I just have to find a day when I'm pumped up so I don't look like the twig I am ;)

Going swimming today, hopefully. It'll be interesting to see how many laps (if any) I can do, since I haven't swum (swam? swimmed? stupid English language) in a very, very, very, very long time (excluding the five minutes I did a week ago). Weather has turned to ****.

The EZ bar at one gym is 35 pounds. The ez bar at the gym in another town is 16 pounds. I weigh them.

The 35 pound bar is thicker and is silver, the 16 pound one is much shorter and has more narrow grips, too.

But you know...whatever.

Had tea in a garden at the house of my grandparents'/mum's friends' house this afternoon. I've never done that before. Quite relaxing.
Except for the fact that I was going to go for a ****ing swim today, and I didn't. Bitchin'.
Chest and back tomorrow. I'm going to rip the **** out of the weights.

Episode II of Todd's Twisted Dreams:

I was in some sort of high school, and the teacher was teaching us this chemical reaction which foamed up like the vinegar/baking soda reaction. Anyway, I realised the stupidity of teaching high school kids a primary-school science experiment. Everyone else seemed transfixed. Then I looked at my watch, which I didn't get (in real life) until 2nd year of university, so I couldn't possibly have had it at high school. The second hand had fallen off, and was rattling around inside the case.
I picked up the bucket of chemical gunk afterwards and tipped it down a garbarator.

CHEST/BACK
================================================================

INCLINE BB BENCH:
45x5
105x3
125x7
Had to use this first, since the gym only has one bench and it was in use. One of the guys using it was pushing 85lbs, which reminded me of the time I was using that weight. Good for him.

FLAT BB BENCH:
155x4
135x8
Chest was a bit fried even from that one incline set. I'm not used to inclines.

PULLUPS:
BW x 6
Bleh. I'm throwing these out of my routine. They don't engage my lats and I'm just not improving on them at all. I'll start doing more rows and maybe some T-bars, and see how I go at these again in a few months.

DEADS:
135x5
185x3
225x5
225x5 (or was it 6?? I'm not sure, I was too elated with doing another 5)
Progressing nicely. Switched to mixed grip halfway through the second set, which I've never tried before. I like it. But most of the time, I don't need it.

PARALLEL BB ROWS:
115x7!
115x6.9!
115x5.8
I think these are what are going to make my lats grow.

INCLINE DB PRESS:
Skipped, the gym was full and I was a bit shagged after the deadlifts. More cardio for me!! Might actually get my ass into gear and go for a swim tomorrow, we shall see. Everyone keeps organising stuff for me to do, which is nice of them, but it's rather annoying at the same time, because I never end up being able to plan when I want to do stuff myself.
================================================================
Weigh-in: STILLLLLL 200lbs. ****. I'm going to have to literally start eating horses soon. I need some trail mix, that stuff seemed to work before. Bags and bags of it. Maybe I should just buy one of the bins they sell it in in the shops.

Today I went sailing in the harbour with my sister (who's recently returned from Korea) and her friend. That was pretty cool, we learned a bit about all the lines and ropes and sail folding and sailing.
Then we got McDick's for dinner. As we pulled up to the collection part of the drive-thru, one of the girls told the other what to put in our bag. We were within earshot as the other girl said "What, ALL OF IT?" :D I was pleased in my own twisted sort of way.

Mix: No way. Stiffies are the correct name for that movement. Wait until you see a girl doing them.

Today I went swimming, just like I said I would. This journal makes for amazing
motivation.

I did something like 15-20 laps, with decent breaks in between them. It's amazing how much it kicks your ass if you haven't done it in awhile. I don't think I could do more than 2 laps at a stretch of any stroke except backstroke or sidestroke, and even then I'd probably only be able to do 3 or 4.
After (and in between), I played around on the little floaty things in the pool, and dived. I also went on the waterslide. That was exciting, particularly because it was designed for little kids a quarter of my height, so that my hip was level with the top edge of the side railing, meaning I almost went over the edge on the tight curve (a good way up in the air, too) :D

I've already lost a lot of my fat (I have some sort of crazy metabolism where I can drop, say, 2-3% fat in about 2-3 days of under-maintenance eating and decent exercise). Yoga was pretty intense. If you think it's easy, you're mistaken. I'd rate it up there with the biking I did yesterday in terms of cardio/endurance work.
Not ideal for putting on massive amounts of muscle, but it certainly made me sweat like ****.
Two ladies, probably in their late 20's/early 30's, were trying to rip into me at the end. They had killer bodies. It was great :D

Unfortunately Mase, I didn't do arms today, because I knew I wouldn't last the yoga session if I did. It was just as well. After that many upward/downward 'dogs,' your arms and shoulders kind of take a beating. It's kind of like holding 1/2-way-pushup position for a long time. It would also appear that my legs have exploded. I can hardly fit into my jeans (which a few days ago, were baggy) with my wallet in the pocket. And it ain't no fat, either. Which leads me to believe that either:

(a) cycling gives your legs a pump which lasts for more than a day;
or

**** I'm pissed off right now. The gym shuts today at 4:30pm. I got out of bed at 11:30am today. And I did absolutely nothing all day. And then I was getting ready to go at about 3, and my grandparents wanted to go for a walk and get some ice cream. So I went with them. On the way back, I checked when the gym shuts (it's Labour Day). I have no one to blame except myself for not getting off my ass earlier, and it makes me very angry.
Tomorrow morning's going to be an ace deadlift session, I can see it now.

One of the mods in general chat doesn't like me.
First they deleted my 1337 cereal thread.
Now they've deleted a post in an old thread on 'A Short History of Medicine" or something like that. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

I can't go for a swim because the pool's closed till the 17th. I don't have anyone to play golf with. I'm going to the gym.

Today was a very eventful day, and kind of different.
Went out for lunch with my grandma, and on the way, we saw what looked like a typical 3-car accident at an intersection nearby. As we crossed, we got to talking with a stranger, and she'd seen the accident. Apparently, a young guy who'd crossed the street had been hit and killed. You just can't take life for granted....
Then I got to the gym, and it was an ace session.
Then I got back, and found that there was a phone message for me. I got the job I applied for, which is awesome. Should (hopefully) be a good place to work. Will probably start sometime next week.

Anyway, that's that.

Yeah T3 that would be sweet. WBB members are going to be the only people i know (or semi-know) in Canada, other than my parents/brother.

Ace deads BTW. I remember being stuck at 220 for ages but once i got past there things started moving very quickly. I'd say that for me it was mostly a mental thing, anything over 100kg just seemed too heavy. I think you'll hit 300+ in no time at all.

Ok well I'm off for a legs session soon.

I had a totally futarded dream last night. I was adrift on a small raft in the middle of an ocean. I somehow knew that this ocean was infinitely wide, long and deep. Considering that I had a bird's-eye view of myself on the ocean, and that the sun reflecting off the surface prevented me from seeing how deep it was, that was pretty ridiculous. But at least I couldn't see anything on the horizon.
Then I saw a whole bunch of green tentacle-like seaweed coming up from underneath, which was kind of creepy. It must have been like 10000 miles tall, considering the depth of the ocean. Anyway, there was this forest of seaweed EVERYWHERE. As in, it occupied almost every cubic centimetre of water as far as I could see.

Last night I went out to a med school party with my sister's friend who's in med school, and my sister. I can't even describe the girls there.
Got back at 1am. Got to sleep at 2am. Got up for orientation day for work at 6:30.
Got dragged out to a one-man play tonight which wasn't amazing, then for dinner.

I'm not in the best mood right now.

Cash register 'skills' tomorrow. I can't wait.

Frig the training was intense. I've never used a cash register before, and that's what today was all about. There must be about 50 different functions you have to remember, and where to put the receipts, and what to check for on cheques and credit cards, and where to put the cash, and where to take the cash, and how to call for cash, and what should be signed by whom, and 100 bajillion permutations of events. It would seem.
Other than that, it went ok.
I was going to do arms and shoulders tonight but it'll have to wait till tomorrow, I'm going out for dinner. Luckily, training doesn't start till 1:30pm tomorrow, so I'll go in the morning. It finishes at 10pm.....

Fak it.
Woke up at 7:30am, went back to sleep for another 3/4 of an hour, then had to look over stuff for work training, then realized that, although I'd planned to have a good four hours in which to go to the gym and sort out stuff with the bank, I now had only one hour. So I didn't go to the gym this morning. Training ran till 10:30.
The girl I sat beside for the entire 3 days was really cute; as per usual, nothing happened. Although she was being very friendly towards the end... but I couldn't do much because it was work training, not a ****ing pub.
As it was getting near leaving time, one of the girls from the front row asked me if I'd ever been told that I looked like a famous hockey player. So I said no. Then she said "You look like Todd Bertuzzi" (or however you spell his name).
The guy then called me up to get a piece of uniform, and of course they go "OMG your name's Todd!?!?!? WTF LOLZZ!!11!! It really is him!!!" Which is odd, considering they'd already called me by name a couple of times without saying anything.
So I go "yeah, that's right." Bishes.

So anyway, I'm hoping to get a session in tomorrow, I'll be mightily disappointed if I don't. I'm also hoping to get in a bike ride afterwards.

The gym was packed, and this was not helped by the fact that there's construction going on. I couldn't get on the rowing machine or even a bike or treadmill to warm up.

DB SHOULDER PRESS:

Felt a bit of a twinge in my right lower back on the last rep about halfway up, so I let the bells down. I've never done a superset on this exercise before, so maybe my back wasn't used to the continuous strain, plus I was probably involving it more than I should to get the extra reps out. Anyway, it didn't bother me again for the rest of the workout, and it's fine now, but we'll see how it feels tomorrow.

CG BENCH:

Sylvia: Thanks!

Stack: Thanks man. I wouldn't say it's hard to find a job here, but it depends what you're going to do. I think there's a major shortage of skilled labourers and tradesmen and stuff like that, but I don't think there's much opening for scientists, etc. It should be easy to find a job in a restaurant or store or whatever, if that's what you're looking for.

Coke: Thanks! Yeah, you're right. But it did take me longer than an average person to figure out how to do them. Maybe I was using too much/little weight before.

Wikked: So true, so true... How come everyone thinks I'm STILL travelling? I've been (almost) stationary for a HUGE ~3 months now.... :D
As for what I do.... well I'm supposed to be a scientist, but I don't know whether I want to do a post-grad degree or not. For the moment, I'm just going to work in a drugstore for awhile and save up some pingers. Then I might consider it. Or not.

Didn't go cycling today because the fire in the bog in Delta's still making the city all smokey. And the weather was ****ty.
Last night I had another ****ed-up dream where I was riding my old motorbike (which I don't have anymore) along a beach. Anyway, I was with someone, my dad I think, on another bike. And the other person goes "LOOK OUT!" So then I turned around, and there were all these wild African animals and stuff you'd normally see in a zoo, and somehow they appeared as if out of nowhere - they were just flooding out of what appeared to be a rift in the space-time continuum on the beach. Or something. They'd all be merged together and then they'd differentiate into their various beings, and start running away from this portal thingo. And then I saw that a skunk which had come out of the portal (we'll call it) was running towards me. This particular skunk was at least as big as my motorbike, probably up to about my waist or higher, and ferocious-looking, with big white canines and a nasty, snarly appearance. (Where my mind comes up with this ****, I don't know...) So anyway, I gun my bike, but it takes off reeeeeaaaaalllly slowly, and this thing is gaining on me. It runs like a deranged hunchback, all ungainly and lop-sided and off-balance, its feet padding along the packed sand in an uneven rhythm. It's about to launch off from its hind legs into the air towards the back of my bike.... and then I wake up. It would have been interesting to see what happened, it's a shame I woke up, really.

Anyway, tomorrow I go in for 5 hours at the new job. Wish me luck everyone, I'm going to need it in order to escape harassment from the stream of elderly pensioners who queue at the sales dept's and/or checkouts.

Especially not in NZ, where they pay you $13 an hour for the rest of your life, despite the fact you worked for four years (or more) to get an education. The government there doesn't have its priorities sorted. Might be different here, though.

Ryuage: Thanks, man!

Gal: Who are you calling a slacker, little man? Get back into your cage. :D

Kiaran: Haha, ironically, I don't watch TV much at all, maybe an hour a week. If that.
And only for the news. I haven't found a single good program on TV since I was about 12 years old. Thanks dude, I don't know if 'outstanding' is a word I'd use to describe them, but I guess they're ok considering the rest of my lifts. Yeah, try the shrugs, they're good.

I just used fitday for the first time in about six months, and to my astonishment, I've been living on (on average) about a 25:50:25 PFC ratio for a long time, I think. When I type in my 'average' diet for the last few weeks, anyway. In fact, I think it was MORE than 50% fat. Which is incredible, because I've still been gaining a bit of muscle, and haven't put on any fat, really. I've only been taking in around 4000-4500 Cals a day though, which simply isn't enough. I think I need about 5000 now to gain. I haven't put on weight for about 3 weeks. At least now I have a ballpark figure - I should have tried fitday again ages ago. Need more protein %, though.
