first, i have cut calories and added extra cardio. i have cut carbs considerably, down to 100gm or less a day and i find that i have a hard time concentrating and feel lethargic during the day. is this from fewer calories or carbs or am i just a lazy ass? my second question is about cardio. i try to rotate between the stairstepper, exercise bike and running for 40 minutes a session. i find that with the bike, it is easier effortwise, my heart rate is still in the 65-85% MHR (which i have read is best for fat burning) but the reported calories burned are less than with the others. is this still effective or would i be better off not using the bike? thanks

Yes eating little carbs will make you feel that way but you drop body fat fast. I've gone as low as 25 grams of carbs a day but I wouldn't advise it felt like $hit......

It's different for everybody, for some people it is difficult to function properly on low carbs, for other it's not as hard. I've gone down to 20-25g per day and I didn't feel any discomfort.

If you're trying to cut calories they don't all have to come from carbs. When I'm cutting without going low carb I use the following guidelines:

+Set the total calories for the day (for example, 2000)
+Get at least 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight (right now I'm at 171, so that would be about 180g of protein = 720 cals)
+Get at least 30% of the total calories from fats (30% of 2000 = 600 cals, about 66g of fat)
+The rest is carbs (about 680 cal or 170g of carbs)

100-200 carbs per day is fine for cutting imo. especially if you're a 160-200+ pound guy


my cut is coming up and I'm going to start with 2400 cals and 150-200 carbs per day.

See how that goes and work from there.

mic, what are your stats? i am about 5'10" 185 and i am eating about 1800-2000 calories a day and i get between 180 and 200 gm protein, about 100 grams of carbs and the rest comes from fat. am i going too low on any of this? thanks for the help

I dont know about you but I have a tough time knocking off fat. Even at 10% I still had plenty of extra skin on my obliques and sh-t.

Even so, I think 1800-2000 might be to few cals unless you're not doing much cardio. It depends on your body but that sounds a little big low.
