View Full Version : Considering bulking only on tricep/chest days while cutting, possible?

I want to get my bench up to 315 from 295 and I'm close, but lagging in only one area, my triceps. It's that last bit before lock out that is keeping me from getting a higher bench and it's driving me nuts.

I'm currently in a cutting phase, but with my triceps lacking, would it possibly be smarter to, rather than going 500 cal below my maintanence (somewhere around 3500 calories lifting heavily daily) to actually go 500 calories above on tricep + chest (bench mainly) days (2 out of my 7 days)?

You could, but you probably wont see any gains cutting or bulking wise. Just keep working any you will eventually get there.

You grow over a period of time, not in one day, so no, that doesn't make any sense.

Typically you won't see strength gains during a cutting phase, so I wouldn't worry about it until you start bulking again. There's certainly no shame in benching 295 anyway.

IMO that would somewhat work.
I do the same type of idea, eat more on lift days 4days week, and less on cardio days3days week.

I'm almost positive there's a difference between what you do and what he is suggesting.

Eating over maintenance on certain days of the week, while cutting, in order to make certain muscles grow obviously will not work.
