View Full Version : Before Photos

At this point I am debating on whether to bulk or cut. I leave for Marine Corps boot camp at the end of May and I'd like to get at least one good bulk and a similar cut. Which should I do first? Sorry for the lack of variety in the pics. Its hard to take good pics when you are the camera man. If you guys need a particular shot, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Be honest, tell me what you think I need to work on. Also, bf% opinions would be helpful. Let me know what you think.

You seem around 11% bf, but it's hard to tell with the photos being so blurry.. you're very lean nonetheless... I would say bulk.

bulk, bulk, bulk. You'll lean up once you hit boot camp.

Yea, sorry for the blurry shots. I had to borrow a friends camera to take the pics. The lighting sucks too. What can ya do though... WOW, I didn't realize that my bf was that low. I was thinking I was in the 19% range. Btw, I'm 6' tall and weigh 185-190 depending on the day. Keep the comments coming! Tally one for bulk.

(edited for stupidity)

Make the tally two. cphafner posted before I could get mine up.

Do you guys think that I should bulk from now until I leave for bootcamp? Please keep in mind that I need to stay under 220 to qualify under their height and weight standards.

Unless you have awesome genetics, you will most likely lose muscle buring basic training.
I lost 20 lbs (not fat), and that was over the course of only half the time you will be in training.

(but start doing a little cardio also)

I'm doing regular cardio regardless of whether I'll be bulking or cutting (I'll compensate by eating more if necessary). Right now I'm do a 1.5 mile warm up jog before all my workouts(slow 10 min mile pace), at least two full on cardio days a week that include 30+ mins of running, and I also have a running/jogging class that meets on tuesdays and thursdays in the morning. For the run jog class we usually run a 6:30-7:15 min mile pace for at least a mile every day. Needless to say, cardio isn't a problem. In case you were wondering my Initial Strength Test went as follows:
12 pull ups
100 situps in 2 mins.
12:05 1.5 mile run (I can do much better)
I'm fairly confident that I could go to bootcamp now without having to worry too much about keeling over but I'd still like to get in better shape before I leave. My goals for the IST before I leave are as follows:
15 pull ups
100 situps (I'm already maxed out here)
10:30 1.5 mile run (I can probably do this now but vomiting would probably be involved)

Tally another for bulk. So far we have three bulk, zero cut. Any other opinions on my bf%? Keep the comments coming!

What is your weight. I would think you could bulk until May 2007 and still be uinder 220. My guess is your around 165-170.

you have almost the same body type as me, same bf, shoulders/arms, everything. we would look a lot better with 20 more pounds on us!

All in all, it looks like the general feeling is bulk, so bulk it is.

cphafner, depending on the day, I weigh anywhere between 185-190.

antonioNHB, what type of w/o routine do you work with. How many cals in your diet? Any other tips you have would be appreciated.

slyskamps i try to eat as many as 4000 calories a day if i can. i weigh a bit less than you however, im at 160lbs 5'9". you can view my pics here: http://www.wannabebigforums.com/showthread.php?t=59652
here is a link to the current routine im on.
it doesnt seem like much, but it has really surprised me!

you could actually probably give me more tips than i could give you, but the only thing i know for sure is to:
1. eat enough carbs, calroies and more than enough protein
2. dont hinder your gains by overtraining or doing too much cardio
3. make sure you get some healthy fats in your diet; i.e. fish oil, flax oil, natural PB
4. focus on compound lifts; i.e. squats, deads, bench presses

i hope this has helped you. im sure a lot of guys can comment and put you on a good clear path. thanks for your time, and good luck on the bulk!
