I recently read about Chris Mason using the hook grip on deads (nice lift BTW), so I have tried it the last two times I DL. The pain in my thumbs is almost unbearable. Will the pain eventually decrease? Does anyone besides Chris regularly use the hook grip on deads? One last question, is there any advantage to using the hook grip over a mixed grip if I am not planning on heavy cleans in the future?

Yes the pain will subside after some time.

The only advantage that I can see is that I feel it is easier on my lower back from a torque perspective.

I think for most folks there is no real advantage.

Thanks for the response. The information here and on At Large Nutrition is excellent. Looking forward to buying some protein and maybe ETS when my current supply is gone.

I just started using a reg grip and using straps if I need them. Because of what Chris mention about the pos. less torque on the back.
