No singles in the shirt? 6-board? damn man what is that like 1" ROM? I wouldnt even be able to fit it between my chest and the bar. Solid workout dude 305 x 3 in the shirt is solid.
Thanks Pup.
Kev, the plan is to work down to singles. Triples for 3 weeks, then doubles, then singles. Triples in a shirt are NOT good times. But I made every one of them touch. The set of 305 was by far my best set of the day. After the 2nd rep I figured I was toast, but when Rhodes is screaming down down down down at you, you do it, and I smoked it.
We were all doing the 6-board. It was a little more than an inch, but I liked it because one of my biggest issues is locking out without losing it back over my face. I'm going to start doing heavy MPs on my speed day.
(I'm changing DE bench day to Bench accessory day. I'll still do DE bench, but it is no longer my main focus.)
BP: 10x45 5x95 5x3x135
3-Board Close Grip: 5x275 4x275
Seated MP: 4x3x135
Hammer Low Row: 10x70 10x90 10x140 10x180
Right shoulder hurts. Icing it down now. The MPs feel very unstable. I'm going to stick to triples with 135 until I feel a little stronger holding weight overhead.
WillKuenzel
10-16-2006, 05:42 PM
I've even done some seated MP rack presses/lockouts. Helps to build the confidence in holding the heavy weight overhead. Not that you should be doing very heavy work if the shoulder is bothering you but might be something else to rotate in there.
Yeah Will, I was thinking of doing that too. For the first few weeks I just want to get the feeling and see where the stability goes, then I'll add in some lockouts, will have to be on the Smith though, since there is no power rack and I already use the highest pin on the MP rack.

Maybe it is a weakness in the serratus anterior that is causing the instability on the MP. Still looks like you had a pretty good session there Drew.
I'm pretty sure it's the suprasinatus Seb. It's been bothering me for months.

Nice DE work bro. Millies are alot of fun, just be careful with the shoulder.
Thanks fellas. It's always given me problems, but it's about time I suck it up and deal with it.
you've always dealt with it bro. badass.
you've always dealt with it bro. badass.
That's no lie, Drew is king with being tough when the tough gets going!!...hardly ever hear you complaining bro.
Thanks fellas. I try not to complain too much. I just want to lift heavy and get strong.
I did some squatting today since I missed it this weekend and I won't be able to tomorrow. A little different than usual. I just did what I wanted to do.
Box squat: 5x45 5x135 6x2x265+Avg Bands 1x315+Avg 1x365+Avg 1x405+Avg 1x425+Avg 2x315 1x405 missx455
DL: 3x315 1x405 1x405 1x405
This mess took a little over an hour. I was having trouble getting my right shoulder back and I paid for it on the later sets of squats. I was compensating by pulling my hips out so I didn't fall over, which resulted in me squatting the weight up with my quads on the 405 and the 455 without bands. I thought I could get it right onthe 455 but I missed it on the way down and didn't want to risk blowing out my knee. Everything with the bands felt light for some reason. Felt really strong today and wanted to exploit it.

10-17-2006, 07:04 PM
nice dude waht does the average bands add?
EFS estimates them at 140 at the top, I think I'm a little less than that. Probably 100-120 at the top. They deload right before I hit the bottom.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder, this goes on for a while now - did you ever check with a doc?
Great job on your box squats with bands and all.
DD, the bands are brutal when it gets heavy. I have been to several doctors about my shoulder. I haven't heard an answer I like yet.

Thanks bro. And if you can, do it. It's so worth it. I was talking to Kevin earlier tonight and I told him, it's so much easier to get stronger when you have 5-7 guys telling you what to do and talking you through the lifts.

nice job drew, 315 x 3 in the rage is ace
Thanks Rob. The best part about that triple is I hit the rack on the first rep, but I kept my head, kept my sh** together, and smoked the next 2 reps.
On the first miss of 315 off the deuce, I lost tightness and flattened out, got stapled. Vinny told me what I did, I told him I felt it, then I said "I know what to do now, I'll get it." Then I smoked it.
Off to play the foosball.

Thanks Seb. Looking forward to it. At least I won't be the skinny guy that day. lol
Rob, just give me a week heads-up so I make sure I'll be around.
Played football and basketball this morning. Scored 4 TDs and took out one of my own guys. lol. We were both running opposite cross routes and he was supposed to be under my route, but he wasn't looking toward me, and I had the sun in my eyes, so I didn't even see him. I dislocated his shoulder, but I popped it back in for him. lol. I made the mistake of taping my ankle like I was going to lift. I couldn't walk on it, so I had to re-tape it. Everything held up great. Shoulders hurt, but that's normal. Tweaked my groin and my calf, but all in all, I feel good.
Going to try and squat tomorrow.

Benchin:
Warmup (band traction, db rc stuff)
Bench: 10x45 5x45 5x135
4-Board: 3x185 3x225 3x275 3x295 3x315 1x335 1x355 1x375 1x395
Rage-X: 2x325 3x325
Missed 3rd rep on the 1st set, but stayed with it forever. I kept pressing but I just couldn't breathe anymore and dropped it. Took about 10 minutes just sitting in a corner shaking but kept the shirt on. Rhodes goes "You goin again?" I said "Hell yes!" Then smoked 3x325 although I beat the press call by half a second on the last 2 reps, but I still touched the weight. So listen up kids, this just in, YOU ALWAYS HAVE MORE LEFT! If I didn't fele like my arms were going to fall off, I might have asked for another weight. They wouldn't have let me do it, but I might have asked. lol

There is always the APA meet in Fair Haven, VT :)
Guys, I got a few options to weigh out before I decide.
Fun with squats: (All free squats, no box, no suit, no knee wraps)
Squat: 10x45 5x135 3x225 3x275 3x315 1x365 1x405 1x425(w/belt) 1x455(w/belt)
Walkout: 1x525 w/belt 5 sec hold
Squat: 1x405 (no belt, wrist wraps) missx475
Bottom up squat (DEEEP! Ass almost on the floor): missx365 1x315
And done. I really need to do more ab work. I did a LOT of hip work last night and this morning :D

Ace squatting, the bottom up squat sounds hard as sin.
Thanks kid. My ankle feels really weak and unstable when I get over 400. I'm hoping to get back up over 500 soon, but I need a lot of work.
Dave, I've never tried it from that deep before. It was evil.

o yeah and i do them bottom up also, makes it harder.
Bottom up partials will be tough since I only have a squat rack.
Funny story from tonight.
So I'm in the squat rack, working up. Had like 315 on the bar and I was talking to one of the trainers. He was asking me about how I train and the techniques and stuff, really actually wanted to try and learn something (rare from a PT, I know).
So these 3 dudes come over and go "Hey, you got a lot of sets left?" And I look them up and down, notice the big arms and no waists or legs and respond with "Yeah, a LOT!" so they all like walk away. Then the rack next to me opens up and here they come. Work all the way up to 85 big lbs on the bb curl! I couldn't contain myself, I was seriously laughing right at them.
Then one of the other guys comes over and asks me how many sets I had left. (I see this dude all the time, he's a BBer, but still cool. lol) And I'm like, "If you're doing curls, a real lot." and we both just bust out laughing. And like laughing right at the guys doing the curls.
Good times.
Stumprrp
11-01-2006, 07:48 PM
Good times drew, the PT at my gym is a hella cool guy, he knows about all the good training and reads anything he can get, knows westside, DC, all the top programs. Also is a beast in functional pylometric stuff, his 1 arm snatches baffle me.
lol, u got balls man to laugh at the curl jockeys and stuff i just give them bad looks, if i made comments they would jump me (like spanish gang members, no pun intended to hispanics on here, these guys are really stupid) 1 of them has like monster 18 inch arms but he was like crying trying to get 6 reps with 225 on bench, i continued to deadlift :D
Yeah dude, nobody is about to F with me in there. I don't really worry about it.

I am almost definetly heading down to Southside this Friday. *notes that he needs to be there for 6:30 and eat humble pie* :)
Sweet. A lot of the guys won't be around. Maybe like 5 of us, so it will be good. We could use someone (other than me) to carry the plates. lol

11-01-2006, 09:36 PM
Don't you love the curl jockeys :D
Yesterday there were about 10x 2.5lb and 10x 5lb plates on the squat rack. Had to work extra to reach the 45lb plates... I have a suspicion tehy were not used for squats... Life sucks sometimes...
Great job with the squats Drew, ace walkout with 525lbs.

Haven't been around here for awhile.Poped to say hi,I haven't forgotten you :)
THanks for stopping in guys.
The shoulder is feeling fantastic. However I have been laying off squatting a bit in the past few weeks. I may not squat again until after the meet. Will probably do some pulling tomorrow to see where I'm at. Really hoping to get at least an 800 total at the meet with a 345+ and 500+ for bench and dead. Going to attempt 345 for a double in the shirt tonight and possibly 405 off the 4-board depending on how the night goes.
KevinStarke
11-17-2006, 09:32 AM
Kill it man, my bench strength is commin on back dude.
Miserable benching last night.
RC work
BP: 10x45 5x135
4-Board: 3x225 3x315 3x315 1x365 missx385 1x385 missx405 missx405
Rage-X: missx345 missx345
I got really pissed after missing the 385 the first time, not because I missed it, but because it never dropped and I started it moving again and felt like I could lock it out when the back spot took it from me. I was really charged up. I managed to get the 385 after thet, but then I think I just was being way too emotional about it and missed the 405 twice. By the time I got the shirt on, I was all cramped up and pissed off and I kept flaring out right at the bottom. Both times I lost the bar over my face on the right side. One of my worst performances by far.
Next week I plan to try the 345 again and possibly a single with 315 after that as it will be my opener at the meet.
Dude.. tough night!!
You better fire that back spotter!
You will knock it down next week. Just think positive.. and nail it!

Thanks for all the support fellas.
Bearwolf, he's not my favorite liftoff guy and he's always doing his own thing when someone else is lifting. I don't think he'll be there for long.
3 weeks to meet. I haven't pulled heavy in a while so I may work up to 455 or so this week. I would like to open with 455 and go right to 500. The 2nd may change though, based on my bench. I may just go for whatever it takes to get the 800 total and then go for broke on the 3rd. Bench plan is 315 then 335 or 345 and if it feels good, maybe go to 365.
Went to see Disturbed last night with my girl. It was an awesome show. Nonpoint, Flyleaf and Stonesour opened. All really amazing bands. The biggest surprise for me was Flyleaf as I don't normally like hard rock bands with female lead singers. They were really good though.

245 x 1
275 x 1
315 x 1
But thats just me..

Rob, I would do what Kevin said only I would probably go 275 then 295 and then 315.
Kev, thanks bud. Love the new Av.
Dave, honestly it was the first time either of us even heard of Flyleaf. Like I said, I generally don't like when chicks sing in heavy bands, but she was good.
You've got a little time to tweak things and really be on before the meet...you always hit the mark come showtime.
Been lifting, just no time to post lately. Worked up to 3x105s on DB inclines Monday and did a bunch of rear delt stuff then worked up to 455 on the DL last night which will probably be my opener. It felt a little slow, but not really heavy if that makes sense. Legs felt really strong. Some SLDLs with 405 and a few full ROM singles with 405.

Thanks everyone.
I'm going to be in the 220 class at the meet. Hoping to weigh at least 215 and maybe catch a few more lbs by the time I deadlift. Just stepped on the scale at 212.
My last workout was Wednesday. Just some speed pulls to work on technique. I think it went very well.
DL: 5x135 3x225 6x1x275 4x1x315 1x365
GM: 15x225 8x315 8x315

good work strong GMs
Thanks Rob. Now I just need to stop smoking for the next few days (I don't really smoke a lot, but I need to stop.) And make sure I get plenty of sleep on the ride up there (my girl is driving) on Saturday.
I'll probably do some light rear delt work and some abs tomorrow and maybe take a few reps with just the bar on the bench.
My plan of attack keeps changing in my head, so right now I'm just going to open the bench with 315. Should get that no problem and then I'll go to 345 which I should get if I keep my head right and don't spazz out when I touch it. If I'm cruising, I'll take anywhere from 350-370, depending on how strong I feel. But that's getting ahead of myself. I'm going to list my DL opener at 455 but I really want to total 800 so if I only get my opener on the bench, I may go 425 and then jump to 485 instead. If that doesn't happen and I get at least a 345, I'll go 455 then right to 500. Depending on how the 500 goes, I'll either try for 525 or I'll just pass. Usually if I have to grind one out, I'm spent and won't be able to pull another. If the 500 comes up fast, I'm in business.
So yeah, I don't think about the meet too much. LOL
