515 would be nuts, so would you bein 181 at the meet. When i saw the "181" I immedietelly thought, "crap but isnt Don 181?" and then remembered when I lost all respect for him when he said, "dont deadlifts make your bench go down?", so odds are he wouldnt do a full meet anyway.
Don wouldn't travel that far anyway. I doubt he even squats. I also lost all respect for him when I saw him attempt a 500 DL after he couldn't even budge 455 off the floor.
Frikkin CT liquor laws piss me off.

All singles done with the belt. Only used wraps on the 495 attempts. Considered calling it a day after missing the 495. I totally missed the groove on the way down and barely came off the box the first time. As I was pulling plates off I began to entertain the idea of trying again. My legs still felt good and I figured with a long breather I could hit it. I reloaded the bar, waited about 10 minutes. Chalked up good, wrapped up tight, belt to the 4th notch (I usually use the 2nd or 3rd), cracked a cap and gave it two long pulls before I got under the bar. Unracked, walked it out, tightened up, hit the box and F***ING BLEW. IT. UP. 6 plates coming sooooon.

Uggh, I feel weak as sh*t. Been sick since yesterday. Managed to get in some bench work today, but everything felt heavy. Even 135 felt heavy. Elbows are aching. Shoulders are aching. Uggggh.

Well, the big plus here is that I dragged my sick ass to Mohegan Sun last night to see the WSM. Well, I never made it to the WSM and pulled in about $400 at the craps table. So it doesn't hurt so much to take the day off from work now.

What's a Dimel Deadlift?
It's basically an explosive RDL. You hold the bar, drop it down to knee level and then immediately explode back up to full lockout, making sure to throw the hips and contract the glutes hard. Really helps with explosiveness and lockout.
Style made famous by the late Matt Dimel from Westside who was their first 1000lb squatter.

Working out hungover, HARDCORE. Those are usually the funnest days in the gym. Couple of guys smelling like booze trying to move a lot of weight. Puke can in the corner. When you finish those days, you know you worked out. Need some advice on a routine. Started a new routine today and was going to lift three days a week, each one centered on the big three. Kinda West Side style with the actual workouts, ME and then stuff for weak points. I don't see the point in WestSide right now because my lifts are so low on Squats and Deads that having a speed day doesn't seem as beneficial. What ya think? Suggestions would be very helpful.
I think a speed day would benefit you greatly for squats and bench. You don't really need to do speed deadlifts at all, but speed squats off a box would help tremendously to build both the squat and deadlift. You might try doing a ME upper day and an ME lower day and then use the 3rd day for speed bench and squat (you could also do speed squats and then work up to a 3 rep max on the same day, but this is really killer on your body).
I was squatting 355 when I added speed work and 16 months later I'm at 495, so I think they've worked quite well for me.
Don't go nuts about weak points with your squat and deadlift. Just concentrate on working the main lift, then a heavy hamstring movement, heavy ab work and some lower back work. I'll occasionally do some direct quad work (dead stop leg press, front squats, lunges) but not often.
As for your bench, you should know what your weak points are there. I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two.
Speed Squats (with suit bottoms): 10x45 5x135 10x2x245
And done. I'm just dead today. Speed was pretty good. Finally was able to get the suit where it was comfortable (as comfortable as a squat suit can be, I guess). I'm going to try and use the suit for all of my DE squats and then work it into an ME day in about 5 weeks. I really don't see any reason why I can't be squatting close to 600 soon with this suit.

Thanks bro. I have read so many articles about Westside and who should use what techniques that it gets frustrating. I didn't want to use it just because my lifts are so weak in squat and deadlift, there isn't a weak part to work yet. What you said makes a lot of sense. Thanks again.

Mike, no problem. Anytime you have a question just shoot it out. All you ever need to know about the Westside philosophy is this: Train what's weak. Use Max Effort, Dynamic Effort and Repeated Effort. It's really not as complicated as people make it out to be.
I really don't see any reason why I can't be squatting close to 600 soon with this suit.
Neither do I Drew, that will be a breeze for you with just a touch of preparation - ;) ...I agree, speed work helps.

and what kind of suit do you use? i have an inzer z-suit thats about 2 years old or so. i never got really comfortable in it so i just stopped using it lol. it always felt like it was pulling me forward. do you know what im talking about? i would really like to learn how to use a suit before i start lifting at this powerlifting gym, and get my ass laughed at...

Gimp, I'm 5'6" and I use the z-suit. I always find it throws me forward too, but I'm working on it. I almost gave up on it, but if Tony Clark can squat 1000 in it, I can surely get 600.

OK, long story. Not really though.
About 3:30 yesterday I got a call. A friend had 4 tix to the Yankees game. Club level (nice. $100 each). For free. So I had to go. Got home last night and was having server problems so this is my fist chance to post anything.
Will definitely be pulling some big weight tonight.

Haha i have to man i live in his parents house :( he's such a tool though. He's a complete coward and you have to be a real bitch for me to actually call you a coward. When we were arguing and what not he wouldnt look me directly in the eyes, he looks past me which i thought was hilarious. He's also terrible at insulting someone, all the kid cares about is money so at some point in the arguement i go, "Nate all the money in the world wont buy you a personality man" to which he responds, "oh i have a personality! at least i dont mooch off of other people! (in regards to me living in his parents house)". Kevin: "your parents invited me you moron and your girlfriend is living here too, are you ****ing ******ed?" Nate: "uh, yah ok!". Living with this kid is driving me insane, anyone who spends 2.5 hours ( LITERALLY ) on BICEPS/TRICEPS is a moron to begin with, but this kid takes it to a whole new level. He wont even talk to me and vice versa so the odds of him lifting with us are slim to none, I also dont want his dad who thinks Nate is gods gift to the world saying i cant have people over or something.
Have Sonja get her friends, and you guys come to my place on Saturday night. No pool, small space, lots of liquor. Party.

DL: 5x135 3x225 1x315 1x365 1x405 1x455 missx500 (4 f***ing times!!!)
My back was cranked when I pulled the 455 but I didn't think it would affect me at all. I nearly got 500 on the first try, stalled out right at the knees and kept pulling. Moved it a few more inches but then I started to hitch about 3 inches from lockout so rather than blow out a disc, I opted to let it go. I then cracked an ammonia cap and it literally squirtted up my nose. I couldn't breather for a few seconds, but I went ahead and tried anyway. No budge. Tried again, moved about 3 inches. Waited about 10 minutes, tried again and moved it about 6 inches. Then decided that it just wasn't going to happen today and I'll hit it again next week. I'm pissed.
You need to get some head next time before you deadlift...that should fix it.

The Blast is cheap, 38 bills. The Rage and Rage X are pricier, but I want a shirt after a few more paychecks. Will probably get the X. Might as well dish out a few more bucks for something that will really help. I need to find a competition to target for. Probably only bench, but I want to compete. Just to get the experience and see how it all goes down.
Mike, the Rage X should be a great shirt for you. Work on the top-end strength and you should easily be pressing in the 400s.
Kevin and I will both be lifting in Wallingford CT in September. That should be pretty close for you.

I can't lift at the top of my game while angry. I need to be in a good state of mind. Today was not the day. Below is a lame deadlifting session in which I repeatedly tortured myself with some blind hope that I would get it done. Alas I did not. Thankfully, this is training and not the big show.

At this point my mood went from bad to worse as the re-tard at the front desk started playing that f@g song "Beautiful" by James 'need to smoke a' Blunt. continued...

On a happier note, I just noticed that this nasty sunburn is starting to blister all over my arms and chest. Super.
One other thing. As Crash said in Bull Durham "Get the girl out of your head!" which is what I need to do. But there are 2 girls up there and I'm having a hell of a time right now.
Whatever, I'm rambling. I just need to make it to next Friday and then 2 weeks off. I NEED this so badly.

Why come you did not do a 5RM or something as part of the deload?
A few reasons Risky. 1, it's a dynamic day so I wanted to still do something dynamic. 2, I really needed to NOT be on the bench. 3, a 5RM isn't much of a deload ;)

Off the cuff sorta workout today. I just felt like squatting, so I did.
Box Squat: (suit bottoms): 3x135 3x225 3x275 3x315 3x365 (Straps up): 1x405 1x455 (Took the suit off): 2x405
Still getting the feel of the suit. Did the 455 with no wraps on but got stapled to the box and somehow managed to recover from it. Tomorrow will probably just be an accessory day.
I've also decided to bring the weight back up. I'd like to go 220 by September. Been hanging around at 198 and I just don't like it. I feel weak and tired all the time. Going to try and keep it a LITTLE cleaner this time around, but I still plan to gain a bit of fat. YAY!
