not sure what to think, but anything taken in extremely high amounts is bad for you. There are economies of scale with everything. You just need to do it in moderation.

I think the makers of the vitamin E pills would be more concerned with "economies of scale" than the consumer ;).
I do, however, agree that it's nothing to worry about as long as you keep your intake moderate. I don't think there's anything wrong with supplementing with 400 IU's of vitamin E per day, but there's really no need to go much higher than that.

The "upper level" (maximum recomended) for adults is 1000mg/day, or 1500IU/day for vitamin E from natural sources, or 1100IU/day for synthetic vitamin E.
The "upper level" is based on hemorrhagic effects in adults.
