View Full Version : How to work more than muscles?

I have an interesting question that may not get asked a lot, but I think someone might be able to help me.

I started off a skinny-ass mutha (6-1, 153). I've been working out, but not eating much. Still, I'm up in the 168-170 territory. However, I still seem skinny. People have told me this. I'm strong, but skinny.

Damn.

It's mainly my joints. I have big biceps and pretty sizeable forearms, but my wrists and elbows are rather weak looking. Its like where the muscle ends, the arm ends. is there any way to look overall thicker and bigger: that is, to size up things other than muscles, like bone mass? Is it as simple as calcium, or am I fated to look "strong but skinny" for all time?

genetic dictates how your muscles take shape. Do you work with mainly machines? Do you often do high reps to strengthen your tendons and joints?

Weightlifting actually strengthens and thickens your bones. And yeah, you heard yourself, you have to eat more also. Make sure to supply your body with good nutrients and rest, and keep lifting, and your bones/muscles will both get stronger.

Fine joints actually look amazing with large muscles bulging out around them, so don't worry about this - just keep eating and lifting heavy objects.

I guess I should...its just that my BF% is a lot higher than I thought. I don't wanna look flabby for beach week. Maybe I'll keep it at a moderate level and hold my gains till summer, then bulk and cut right before college.

You don't have to put on very much BF% during a bulk. You could take a slow clean bulk...(what I'm doing). I haven't seen too much increase in BF% (it stays about the same actually, with my strength and size gains going up).

interesting...could you please point me to a thread detailing this? I don't know how to tell the difference between a clean cut and a mega-cut.

cant really change the size of your bones to much thats pretty much genetic but over time they will get a tad bigger and thicker to get used the stress of lifitng weights but it wont make the bones super thick,

small bones sometimes make your muscles appear bigger

Are you talking to me? FYI, I'm not cutting. I'm on a clean/slow bulk, trying to keep my BF% from going up to much if not just staying put (seems to be staying put).

From my progress so far, I've been gaining about 2.5 pounds a month, which is pretty much what I want, if not a tad bit faster.

if you do extensive grip work you can get bigger wrists.... go to www.gripboard.com

work your pinch grip

crushing grp

do some bending

supporting grip

youll get rid of those girly wrists if you continue to work your grip, lift hard, and eat. you notice how youve never seen manual laborers have girly wrists?
