Too much cardio. Concentrate on your diet and your lifting. Jog no more than an hour, three times a week.

Well it depends; if you want to become very well conditioned then the jogging for an hour is great.

It all depends on what your goals are.

Depends on what you mean by conditioning. If you mean having great heart/lung capacity, ie, cardiovascular "conditioning", then absolutely. If you are looking to get a more defined muscular look, and gain mass, then absolutely not-- I`m with Built on this one.

I've never understood why people recommend only doing cardio 3x a week. Wouldn't it be beneficial to do it each day in order to create a caloric deficit on a daily basis?

Is there something about doing cardio every day that negatively affects your body?

Please fill me in :)

thanks

Yes. Cortisol. Cardio is catabolic, not anabolic, to muscle tissue.

As I understand it, cardio only burns fat while you're doing it, and it also burns some muscle up, without stimulating much of an anabolic response like lifting does. Lifting increases your metabolic rate and keeps it high for hours, even days afterward.

I get fat and soft when I do a lot of cardio. I stay hard when I watch my diet and lift heavy.

Maybe one of the gurus here has a more precise explanation for you.

I personally would do them on seperate days. But if you have to do them on the same day, do cardio after a workout. Or just am for one and pm for the other.
