I'm interested in their hand to hand combat program. My cousin who's a Marine, says that their HTH combat program titled Marine Corps Martial Arts Program is by far the best, most effective style there is. He's currently a green belt in it. I won't be seeing him for a while, so I can't ask for deminstrations, but can any other Marines here vouge for him?

While I don't doubt that it is good. I did see a marine that had just gotten back from Iraq get his ass kicked in a fight by some random college student.

They have a decent program. Pretty basic strikes and takedowns, limited grappling from what I remember. Nothing that makes them invincible, as some of them seem to think it does.

The marine who "got beat up." Was it at a bar? Maybe he was drunk at the time. It's also possible he got hurt in Iraq and/or can no longer function properly in conflict from head trauma. Also, perhaps he didn't get far, or even begin MCMAP.

It takes about 4 years to become a black belt in it. Guess there's no Marines on here that could tell me more though...?

That or he just got his butt whooped by someone. Knowing those types of moves may put you ahead of the game, but it does not mean you are better than everyone else.

ANYONE can learn and master techniques. but in a REAL fight situation not EVERYONE who learned those techniques are going to come out without a scratch.

Kinda like nerds who take karate to learn how to fight. they still get beat up by the school bully because they just don't have "it".

Yeah, being a Marine does not automatically make you a badass. My buddy who's in the Corps isn't a good fighter, and spends most of his day on the computer.

Probably good stuff to learn, but I have a buddy that just got out of the Marines and they get ideas drilled into them that they are the best and can do about anything. A confident soldier is a more effective soldier.

Not at a bar, not drunk, and he wasn't hurt. He just plain old got his ass kicked.

lol the stuff they taught my friend in boot camp was gay as hell. he tried showing me all these "moves" that might work if i was either drunk or passed out. maybe he hasnt learned the good stuff yet, but if that is the "good stuff" then i would have to say it sucks.

try bjj or something like that.

Im sure its a good program but you could learn more at any BJJ or MMA school and whoop your cousin's ass.

There is no "good stuff" in the marine's repertoire. It's all very basic.

And yeah, I had to drop a marine about a year ago that was all hard-dick and thought he was invincible. He learned the hard way that he wasn't.

your thinking about joining the usmc to learn martial arts?? were in the middle of a war w/ more possible rotations to iraq. Believe me its horrible out here! You most likely won't learn alot of hth anyways. Depending on your basic training, mostly everyone will pass depending on how much time they have to train you on that.

brazilian jiu jitsu, and i'm not sure what MMA stands for. Just know that if one learns enough of that fighting form..they can kick some ass lol...only when provoked.

if you want to learn good self defence in the fastest time possible go with ISF defense called Krav Maga.

I take Hapkido and it dishes out some serious ass whoopins. It's mainly self defense joint locks combined with some striking and kicking. I also agree with crazyedwombat. If they ever offered a Krav Maga around here I'd be there in a heartbeat.

my ex taught me Marine Corps hand-to-hand combat bits at the laundromat once. that was a fun time-pass.

That CDS looks pretty sweet.

About the MCMAP... they don't teach the actual program until you are out of basic.
