Ive not long ordered this bodybuiliding supplement called GABA from www.abf.ac. Im just wondering has anyone here heard of it and is it any good for bodybuilding - It says it can increase growth hormone levels by 550% within 90 mins and also work's as a good sleep aid. Ive asked on here before and this guy said it was supposed 2 be rubbish for bodybuilding but ive been searching on quite a few other sites and theyve said theres been research into it and it IS good for bodybuilding... Just wondering does any1 take it or does anyone know much about it i really want 2 know if it's any good and if any 1 has been using it and has had good or bad results.. ? thanks..

every site that is selling something will tell you how great it is.

I have never heard of this stuff, sounds like a waste of money. stick with food, weights, and sleep. you will be fine.

I have never tried it but some of the guys at the gym have. Some thought it was good. Some did not like taking it as it gave them an odd sensation, like a bit of a hot flush.

I been taking GABA 1500mg for close to a year. It's a neurotransmitter that is essential for proper brain function. It has many many positive effects of supplementing it. It helped get rid of my ADD. Felt more alive and alert. I was low in it though. A normal person with adequate gaba function probably won't see much benifet to it. Search GABA on the forums.. I posted about this a bunch of times. GABA for people with epilepsy is essential.

As pointed out already its a neurotransmitter but why its relevant to weight training is that it controls the pituitary gland. By doing this it is effectively regulating growth hormone release.
GABA's claim is that there is a significant increase in circulating growth hormone through supplementing with it. It has been used in the medical community and I remember reading years ago medical studies which proved that there was an increase in growth hormone release through GABA supplementation.
Whether or not it is applicable to bodybuilders etc I have no idea, I've never used it and you would have to hear testomonials from people who have to decide whether or not it is worthwhile.
I would doubt it though.

Don't forget to consider possible permament effects of this. I would not recommend playing with your health in this manner.

It's hard to tell. I take soo many supplements and it's hard to tell specifically how one is working towards weight lifting. The only way I would really know is if I stopped taking it and saw differences. I get results rather easy due to my diet and supplementation. It's a combination of all of them that help me.

I dunno, maybe long term down regulation of GABA receptors, specially if you didn't have an existing neurological condition before taking GABA.

I don't know that it would do any harm but to a person which has good regulation of gaba it might not affect them to the point they notice anything. There's no harm in trying it for a couple months and if you don't notice nothing stop taking it.

I agree! I have yet to see any proof that supplemental GABA crosses the blood brain barrier, so it's affects are very limited indeed.

If anyone can prove otherwise, I'm very interested.

I would think if you have a healthy natural production of gaba your not going to see much or any difference in supplementation. It will work better for the ones that have poor or less than normal Gaba production.

I saw excellent effects from GABA supplementation. I actually still take it.. Going to be a year soon. I might stop soon and see how i feel after a couple months.

benifets to bodybuilding.. forgot some studies on GABA supplementation increasing growth hormone. THat's definetly important to a bodybuilder.
