ephedra vs ephedrine

are they one in the same? Someone i was talking to is telling me they are 2 totally different things. Even though ephedrine is derived from ephedra. Are the 2 compairable

Ephedrine is the effective alkaloid that you want out of ephedra. This is why you see old supplements with ephedra stating "standardized for 20 mg ephedrine".
