Cottage cheese is good before bed because it contains the slow digesting protein casein, but would a casein supplement be better? Such as this one http://www.optimumnutrition.com/p.asp?p=merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY%26Store_Code=ON%26Category_Code=wmrp

It really shouldn't make much difference. I would stick with the lowfat cottage cheese personally.

In any event, both contain casein...pick one or the other.

I used to hate the taste of cottage cheese, but after a week of eating a cup right before bed, good stuff.

I have to go with a casein supplement cause I'm lactose intolerant. Cottage cheese gives me bathroom horror's.

You must be quite lactose intolerant. I think most people can eat cottage cheese or yogurt without any problems, even if they can't drink milk.

The reason I select the casein protein over cottage cheese is because I have trouble sleeping with a full stomach. The liquid doesn't seem to bother me as much. YMMV.

I use both. Since I work full time I always have casein protein in my office. I take it about twice a day. When I'm home I eat cottage cheese. I always have 2-5 containers in the fridge.

Whole foods are always better IMO. Supplements are just that....supplemental to your FOOD intake.

Or you could have eaten a lot all day and just want something small before bed. =)
