So I have a problem. I have been interviewing with a company in Charleston, SC for a while now. I've been through 7 phone interviews for two different positions and one in person interview. I did this all the while working at my current job. I had to take days off here and there and take an hour of leave here and there to get all this accomplished. I'm sure my current employer is growing suspicious and if not, they are, in the very least, very annoyed with me taking so much time off. I have been invited down this wednesday for another face to face interview but Charleston is a 5 hour drive from here so I'd have to make a very long day of it--not to mention all the miles and gas I waste every time I drive down there. I don't know how to get out of work again without really pissing my employer off. I want out of my current company very badly but I have to keep in mind what might happen if this other job falls through--I'll be stuck working for people that are not happy with me at all and then I'll have to start the interview process over with...I'm at a loss.

it's time to tell them a loved one has died, and you need 3 days off for travel and funeral.

any chance that the new coy will schedule something for a saturday or sunday instead

respecting your current employer will only improve your standing in the eyes of your new employer

personally am not sure I would tolerate that many interviews in a process... that seems a little excessive

I was in the same boat. When I ran out of excuses I told them I had to have a certain day off and I told them it was personal. Then they peshed and asked why. I told them I had to have an std taken care of. Going to the doctor b/c your gf is getting an abortion is a good one too.

Webb Possibly...apparently they can ask you for some kind of proof of death if they're insensitive bastards though.

Tryska Been there/done that...today.

Callahan They dont do weekends...hah. Yeah I'm getting fed up on all the interviews but when you're as desperate as I am to get out of your current job it all makes sense...

spencerjrus Bad idea IMO. They would want to be informed of any legal trouble I was in. Even a speeding ticket since my job relies on my driving record.

jbarba ooo...I'll pass on those.

The idea was to think of someting that just wouldnt look like another excuse. If only my employer was such a bunch of *******s and wouldn't fire me if I told them the job wasn't right for me and I need to possibly look elsewhere but I suppose that's just common sense on their part....

HAHAHAHA the green "e" owns your soul...
oh wait, I own your soul.
Sorry bigass. I'd be in the same boat, except that no one will interview me.

9 interviews seems way over the top, what type of work is this for? Also, the new employer should be reimbursing you for travel expenses related to the interviewing process.

go with some relatives being really ill. I once got 10days of HS for 'visiting my terminally ill grandfather in another country'. :)

theyd want a doctors note.

how about 'my girlfriend broke up with me and I'm devastated'. this will give the employers a connection of why your work has been suffering with the days off lately because of gf problems. ALSO, it instantly makes the employer feel bad for your situation and also make them feel better about themselves that their not in your boat, so would be more inclined to give you a day off.

I don't think ANY job is worth the pain of 9 interviews... Hell even NASA doesn't ask that much from you...
