I will be competing this Saturday in the 156 weight class. Any suggestions you gives could give me? What I should do to prep myself? Will be competing against other Highschools from around the region. You guys think I'll do alright? Top guy is placing 1st at Bench 245-250, Squat some where around 380, clean 235-245. Squat is my weakest lift, Clean being my strongest.

Is the clean an event? Anyway, good luck. There's not a whole lot that you can do at this point. Pay close attention at the rules meeting. Listen for calls - there may be a "Squat!" and "Rack!" commands for squat, "Press!" and "Rack!" commands for bench, and a "Down!" command for deadlift. A lot of newbies ignore calls and get otherwise good lifts disqualified because of it.

Are you wearing any equipment?

Let us know how you do.

I would suggest two things:

Be prepared to be uncomfortable - things may not be as planned - you might not be able to warm up as you like, you might be rushed, you might be delayed, all sorts of things.

Open with weights you KNOW you can hit. When I say KNOW, I mean it. Whatever you can do in the gym for an easy single - subtract 10-20%.

Good luck man, Im hopeing to start competeing in the near future. Just think of this first meet as setting the bar... and your future meets are your chance to raise it.

man the best thing to prep me is to get as PUMPED as you can head but someone anything and get in that zone!!if your not then you might not do as good and go in with a lot of sleep and eat!!one thing that helps me is music .Thats from me being in about 3 comps and another thing rules pay close attion to all of them.but man good luck tell me how you do..

Id kind of avoid water before the meet, However you should load up the night before ( with atleast 64 oz's of water ) and then in the morning piss it all away. And before the meet drink some but no more then 16 oz. If you drink to much to close to the meet you could bump your weight up, same goes with whatever you eat for breakfast.... eat breakfast about 5-6 hours before you go to the meet.

EDIT: lol well i guess that advice is a little bit to late now.
