View Full Version : protein powder and skin, I'm sketchy

OK, I read that post about some people's acne breaking out when they use the protein powder. So I noticed since i've been using the protein powder a lot recently that I had an abnormal amount of pimples and redness on my face. My skin is uaually pretty clean and I never had any problems with acne.

So I stopped using the protein powder and now my skin is pretty much clean and back to normal.

SO I want to say I'm sketchy about the protein powder.. And would like to know what you other people think about potein powder and skin.

This is why protein.

I've taken about 40-50 grams of 100% whey protein for about 5-6 months and noticed no change in my skin.

I've heard of this from a lot of people. I have a friend that this happens to as well. I don' think it's the protein but maybe something else they put in it during the powdering process or sumthing.

if protein was the cause of your pimples/skin issues then it would happen when u ate chicken, beef, etc....it may have been something else associated with the protein though...

I can see how whey might do it because it's a fast acting food.

when i raise my calories alot, especially it seems, when i eat alot at night- i get acne. That might be what happens when you have the powder.

its not the actual protein, but they do put a ton of perservatives and **** in it that could be doing it. You know, you shouldnt really need protein powder in your diet... all you need to do is eat right, and you shouldnt have to supplement at all. Try cutting down how much you take a day, and see if that helps.

i think its an imbalance within ur system due to the change... when i reduced my calories for a cut, i actually broke out.

when i drank for the first time in like 3 months, i broke out.

I think your body just needs time to get used to changes

To be honest when I first started taking using whey I noticed it made my skin feel like it would be prone to pimples (I don't know if it's a PH thing or sweat or what ever but yeah after I eat certain foods I can just tell). Again, I chop it up to the fact that it's a fast digesting food (like sugar).
