Bursting blood vessels?

Has anyone here experienced bursting a blood vessel in your eye? I came home from the gym Saturday morning and noticed that one side of my eye was completely red. I'm guessing it was the dead lifts that did it, but I'm not entirely sure. I got it checked out by the doctor, and she said it will start healing on its own in about 2 weeks, which I'm pissed about because I have my prom next Friday :(. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen to them, and if there is some way of preventing them?

I'm guessing that I didn't breathe correctly at some point while doing deads, but I have no idea.

Any thoughts?

I've had it happen before and wasn't even lifting when it happened, don't know what causes it but it just looks like your eye is full of blood, right? It sucks and looks bad, but it will go away.

I've never had that happen. I have a whole host of eye issues but I've never heard of anything bursting in eyes from lifting. Correct breathing is very important, regardless.

Holding your breath...for too long. It also happened to one of my college buddies like every other weekend due to hard core hacking after a big night.

Got caught in a blue belt's triangle a few times, think it must have popped the second time. Didn't notice until I got back to my room.

It'll go away on it's own in a few weeks.

It happened to me last year and i have no idea how. I was hanging out with friends all day doin' all kinds of stuff, and that night i looked in the mirror and i had a big red circle in my eye. Nothin' to worry about, mine was completely gone within 2 weeks or so...

isnt that called a hematoma? My brother got that one time when he was drunk and tripped with a beer bottle in his hand and stabbed himself in the eye with the top... what a dumbass.

Well, when I deadlift, I hold in my breath while beginning to pull the weight, but toward the middle-end part of the pull, I'll exhale.

2 weeks? wtf? whenever i've busted a blood vessel in my eye it only takes like 2 - 3 days max to go away...unless mine weren't nearly as bad as yours...i sometimes get them whenever i try and pop a pimple close to my eyebrow (i'm pretty lucky, i hardly ever get pimples tho) and i can hear a crackle and my eye starts watering and it's all red and spider vein looking all across it lol
