Last Friday I maxed out on bench for the first time in a long time and got up 315.

I did it like this... 1st set was a set of 10 reps at 135, 2nd set was a set of 5 reps at 185 and then I went strait to max at 315 and got it once... waited 3 min and got it once again.

Then I finished my workouts like normal and on monday I went to bench and could barely do 250 for sets of 3.... I wasnt much better on wednesday either???? What gives

Are you sure the 315 was as legit as you thought?

CC has a point where you bouncing 315 off the chest some? Then doing 250 in a stricter fashion, and Bench mon then wed is too much for me.

No no... this was a strict up down full lockout lift. Got it off the rack myself, moved it over my chest then held it for 2 seconds then went down to my chest WITHOUT bouncing, for a count of 1 then with a perfectly flat back drove it strait up and held it for a count of 2 before I racked it.

The form and tech was all there, I even did this twice and I had 2 people spotting (one for form, one for saftey) and both lifts were sucessfull.

Umm that's a lot of heavy work with very little rest days between. It's hard enough for me to max out two weeks in a row on flat bench.

You can't just look at two training sessions and see the whole picture. You have to look at everything else too.

A lot of things you could look at... Did you get enough sleep? Have you been eating right? Have you been hitting training hard for a while now? Did you do train something else that week? Have you had a tough week at school, or work, or home? Is 250 for 3 usually pretty easy for you?

80% should have been easy for triples, max or not.

Something's not adding up.

I with Power man that should go up for 10 reps, well powerman didn't say that. The other thing is do you arch on the heavy lift and not on the lighter ones?

thats a lot of maxing within a week period...if i max i usually don't max again until at least a month later...and all these other factors that others have been talkin about could have had an effect as welll.

My workouts arnt that intensive... On an arms and chest day Ill do Benchpress, DB benchpress, Peckdeck, Curls, Lats, and Tricep Extentions. Thats usually all I get in besides doing some pushups or situps. On legs days their isnt much to do.. so I do leg press, squats, calf curls and calf extention, and deads. Legs is only two days a week and chest arms is 3 days a week. That friday was the first time in about 5 months that ive maxed out and usually I can get sets of 3 at 5 reps with 250... I could before I maxed anyhow. Then yesterday at the gym I didnt go that heavy and figured Id give it a good go on monday, friday I did 135 for a set of 10 to warm up.. moved to 185 for a set of 10, then went to 225 for a set of 5. Didnt want to do anything besides just work the muscles out minimally.

Im also loseing weight and Im not on any kinda "bulk" or "cut", I just eat how you should when your lifting.

You're in the wrong forum...

80% for 10 reps??? You are also in the wrong forum...

Anyway, WBBIRL, why are you doing pec-deck and push-ups? Lord, don't sweat being weaker in the gym occasionally... You will have good days and bad days - that just comes w. training. Unless you think you are overtraining, there's not much to worry about.

Sensei I was more or less kidding, I did 275x9 and could probably get 330 or so then. He makes 315 sound easy, so why couldn't he do 250 at least a few more?
Back to WBBIRL, do usually do reps? I find it depends on the rep scheme for me on how I do. And I agree if your doing 315 and have a off day don't sweat it.

Well, about a month or so ago I was talking to a bigger guy in the gym who had been watching me workout. He came over to me and asked me how many times I thought I could benchpress 225.... I said 10 and he said then your doing this all wrong. He said Instead of going from 135-185-205-225-250 I should be going from 135-250-225-205 and then quitting. Which im going to give a few months and see what I make of it. Doing it my way the reps went as follows 15,10,10,8,5 and doing it his way the reps went like this 10,3x5,2x5,2x7.... now I know that seems a little weird but after the 3 sets of 5 reps of 250, the 2 sets of 5 reps at 225 seemd hard.

The pushups are just for muscle condidtioning, just trying to get rid of a little excess fat and the pec deck is just to isolate the pec muslces for a better workout.

Probably just an off day - Does any1 think bench pressing 121pounds for 10reps is good - i dont mean max bench now once - i mean 10reps - because thats all i can do and ive been liftin for nearly 2months now - Its got me abit worried ive seen on her some 15ur olds can bench more than that lol.

Pushups have very little effect on excess fat (I'd say none, but they burn a small amount of calories. Running and getting into caloric deficit is the way to do it.
