I am a football player in high school in Wichita, Kansas. And even though I have been a receiver every year, my powerclean sprang up and the coaches moved me to linebacker. It turns out after looking at the record boards the other day the weight i gained since last season (164 to 195 right now) put me in contention for a record. In my weight class the record is 275 and last monday i put up 260 twice. Could it be possible by the end of summer?

Age 17
Weight 195
Bench 235
Squat 370
Powerclean ?

Yes... As long as you continue to train hard and eat correctly.

If you can do 260 twice, you should be really close right now. What is the weight limit for your class?

The weight limit for the class in 205 but i have pretty much stopped gaining weight but you never know. Above 205 is the 215 class and that record drops to 260 but another guy is in that class and can do a considerable amount more than me.

you should go ahead and keep eating and not worry too much about putting on weight, as you seem to be a bit undersized for a linebacker @ 195

well 195 is sure better than the 164 i was last season. hopefully that will make a big difference.

I think you can do it in a few weeks.

If you can do 260 twice, there is a very good chance you can do it now. Just go up 5 lbs your next 2 sessions with it and boom, there you are. Goodl uck.

I had a good heavy day yesterday but my lower back has been increasingly bothering me. its kinda wierd because it feels like it is really deep, not in my muscles. i dont know how to treat it and last night i could barely stay in one position it was so uncomfortable. max outs are in a week or two so i dont really want to quit, and football camp is in 3.

WHAT??? Your camps are startin already.... our camps dont even start until 2-3 weeks before the season starts.

Anywho you should be able to do it now, 2-3 weeks should be all you would need if you cant.

Kansas camps are really early. We are going to Pittsburg State (competed in DII national championship last year) June 5-7. Hopefully my newly gained weight and strength should help out a little.

Definitely take some time off ( probably a couple of sessions). Sounds like a tendon or something of the sort, I have had that too. Absolutely no reason to injure yourself.

Its hard to take time off with a record attempt soon and camps in a few weeks and my last football season around the corner. after the season i will definitely heal since i will not have much of a rush to use heavy explosive lifts. i just need temporary help.

yeah i think you could do it now so in a few weeks i think you will have it down easy

Weve been doing a lot of hang cleans and clean & Jerks lately and for no reason i squatted down a grabbed a bar weighing 225 and powercleaned it, pretty easy obviously, but i feel like my form is kinda going to waste since i havent really worked on the explosion from ground up in a long time. It seemed really heavy and i was just wondering if it is probably in my head or if i actually lost something.

Well, I wouldnt be supprised if your lifts suffer up to 2 full weeks after you max. That kind of intensity on your muscles usually takes a little longer then 1-2 days to fully heal. If I were you and I was shooting for a number in that scenario then for the next week Id go about 50-60% of your max for reps, the next week increase to 65-70% but with longer inbetween each workout. Then, depending on how much time you have after these next two weeks. Id a) go for 2-3 reps with about 75%-80% of your 1rm and then go back to 50-60% for the next week... but if you dont have two more weeks after that then do this, do the 2-3 reps at 70% two of those next 5 lifting days and heal the other 3. You should be fine then to attempt 275

EDIT: explosiveness is a key factor in bigger lifts, espically near your max. Id work out other muscles to... hit the bi's with some curls, back with some deads and tri's with some tricep extentions and maybe if wont burn you out some skull crushers.

I had a great day today. Sadly I spilt some of my NO-Xplode so i only drank like half of it. I know it was only in my head but i felt really tired. Suddenly i realized my bag was turned over and right then someone gave me my wallet back and all the money was gone - 35 bucks from poker saturday - and that really ticked me off. it turned out ok because i got up 230 6 times!

Sucks that you lost your money but good job on the lifts.

Well the day finally came! and man was i ready. The record was 260 for my weight class and i went straight for 265, got it easily along with 275 even easier. I missed 285 on the first try but nailed it on the second. That tied the all time record for my school for any weight class, and the guy that i tied took steroids so in a way i beat it. Went for 290 to break it but i was just too shot and i sprained some kinda muscle between my thumb and pointer finger on both hands. Oh well, it was worth it!

My bad, and anyway congradulations on your new record!!! Do you have another competetion to raise the bar even more?? If I were you thats how Id want it... the only record I ever broke at my school was the deadlift record back in 2002. The record was 450 before that meet, I went and did 475 then half an hour later three seniors shatterd it with a deadlift of 595... i was so pi$$ed. It was a overall record btw not for a weightclass but for the heaviest in the school, our bench record hangs at 360lbs which has been tied twice now from 11th graders (12th graders dont compete in this competition).

Ya, i talked to a coach who said he believes i could be the first 300 pound powercleaner in school history, and he was going to talk to some other coaches about making a t-shirt for a 300 lb. clean club - even though i would be the only one in it, it would be sooo cool. There is someone close to me, and unfortunately he is a year younger than me, but im not competing against him anyways, it's all for me. And yes this is my last try this summer because once the senior year of school starts they are not allowed to break any more records.

Try keeping it closer to your body as you come up. When you feel like your back, calfs, quads, etc. cant bring it up any higher, try doing pretty much a 50/50 of a shrug and upright row at the same time to get that little bit more needed. You will notice when u do it right becuz it feels right and the next morning your traps and upper back should be sore.

Did you ever see those guys on the worlds stongest man show do those over head log presses??? They pretty much clean the weight up to the chest, re adjust their arms and explode up. If you can find a video ( I think there is one on Hugo Girard's web site ) of a heavy log press or something similar, watch how they get it up.
