A sufficient amount of protein (1-1.5g per pound bodyweight) and fat (no less than 30% of calories), and a surplus of calories, which can be made up of the protein plus any combination of good fats and good carbs.

I would also add that I think a relatively high amount of carbs can be extremely beneficial to people with fast metabolisms who usually have a hard time putting on weight.

I agree with Built, as usual. :-) Especially the 'no less than 30% calories from fat' part.

Yes. High carb foods also usually stimulate appetite more effectively than either protein or fat-based foods. Try eating 1000 cals from either bagels, chicken breasts, or peanut butter, and then see how long until it takes you to be hungry again afterwards. I guarantee you're ready to go again most quickly after the bagels.

Fat won't make you fat. Too many calories will make you fat whether they come from fat, protein, or carbs.

I agree with Drai on both counts.

The "fats make you fat" thing is a myth.

I'm cutting, and fats make up from 35-55% of my calories on any given day.

Lots of good protein and fat, and plenty of carbs to fuel your workouts. Good carbs always form the basis of my bulks. A 40/30/30 (C/P/F) diet always has worked great for me.

A bulking diet should consist of every piece of food (healthy: protien, carb, fat macros in check) which is not nailed down lol.

Not only that, but according to alot of researchers good fats can even help make you skinny.
