I recently got back from a road trip that lasted a couple days. While on the road the only stops we really had were at gas stations to tank up and take a leak. Anyway, I ate beef jerky most of the trip and check out the nutrition facts:

Calories: 140
Calories from fat: 15
Total Fat: 2 g
Cholesterol: 65 mg
Sodium: 1220 mg
Total Carbohydrate: 5 g
Sugars: 3 g
Protein: 24 g

Theres an ass load of sodium but I was pretty surprised by everything else, I guess I never really considered beef jerky to be a good source of protein or even a fairly healthy snack food.

The really great thing about Beef Jerky is that you can make it yourself if you happen to have a dehydrator and are willing to spend about an hour getting things set up. This way you control the amount of salt in it, or you can almost completely cut the salt out, and you are left with something that really is pretty much healthy for you in all ways possible. Just a thought but you might want to look into this.

Cajun Jerky is the bomb, except for the amount of salt and the high cost of it.

I don't have the means to make my own jerky, but the kind I was talking about is this kind called Pemican. The teriyaki is out of control, sooo good.

The salt is just to cure the meat, bake that shizzle and lose the sodium... keep everything else.
