Notes:
This was my first leg workout in a gym since my knee surgery 6 months ago. Had to leave the ego at the door! (I’m recovering from ACL reconstruction (patella tendon) and a severe meniscus tear…they had to remove a portion of the meniscus). ROM is fine but the knee is still very weak…I’m sure my good leg is doing all the work during squats…my lower back only cramps on the right (bad) side….never did this before the surgery. Gues I’ll have to be patient. :bang:

your bench looks heaps good, and your squat considering your bad leg looks really good aswell.

nice work man

KevinStarke
07-23-2005, 02:29 AM
Holy crap man your bench is ridiculous. 225 by 25 for a warmup is insane i'd love to see some videos of your lifts especially your 405. With BB bench like that you should be doing much bigger dumbells on incline man just gotta get used to it again.

harv
07-23-2005, 10:16 AM
Matt: Thanks man!

Kevin: Thanks...here's an old vid of me working out with 325. I don't quite lockout on every rep...bad habit I developed I guess.

http://www.wannabebig.com/vids/P2090002.MOV

Next time I max, I'll try to get someone to take a pic.

Oh - my 225 x 25 is NOT full ROM (prob. 4-5" from lockout) ...I use it to get my chest warm...not tire my tris. :)

My lousy incline DB weights is partially from getting used to DB's again but mostly...my incline just sucks. I can only workout with 255 on incline barbell (low incline).

Your lift weights are quite ridiculous for a guy your size. When I was your age I got a 315 bench, 450 squat and 460 dead BUT I weighed 165.

KevinStarke
07-23-2005, 11:29 AM
those numers are still incredible for being 15 lbs heavier and that vid is sick, i've always had a superstition about lots of little weight as opposed to using the biggest plates there are so definitelly props from my deranged mind for that. even not full ROM that 225 is sick. Lookin forward to checking out your lifting man.

Impressive numbers harv. I hope my quads look as good as yours in a few years.
How did you injure your knee?

harv
08-09-2005, 08:53 AM
Thanks stackattack, hey - whose qauds are those in youre avi? Those are in-human!

Ok - the knee. Last year playing football, I was shotgun-snapping the ball (I never do that) then stood straight up, 250 lb guy hits me on my left side, but my right foot is straight and planted (with long ass spikes), my body twists, my foot doesn't ... small "pop" in my knee.

Well - a couple weeks later the knee starts feeling AOK. So I'm playing volleyball, and twist/turn the wrong way and SNAP! Sounded like a dry 2" diamater tree branch snapping. ACL was bye-bye. Meniscus was thrashed.

Had surgery in late December last year. I was actually doing (very very light) squats 5 weeks after surgery.

All in all the recovery was good but my bad leg is still much much weaker than my good one...so all my leg workouts consist of "1 leg" presses.

Guido
08-09-2005, 09:14 AM
Nice journal, man. Those warmup sets you do are INSANE. I would have nothing left for the working sets. Your squats are not bad at all considering only one good leg. By the pics, they are looking pretty even to me, though. Seems like you are making a good recovery. Keep up the good work.

harv
08-09-2005, 09:53 AM
Thanks Guido! I didn't realize my warmups were so abnormal until I started this journal...I really do feel good after doing them - guess it's something my body has gotten used to.

Nice squats and benching harv. WTF is a standing leg press, is it like a hack squat?

Your back is huge.

Coke
08-30-2005, 08:03 AM
That goes to show you need at least 6 to 7 days for each body part to fully recover while going all out with the heavy weights - 5 days just won't cut it, lol...leg work was sweet bro, chest session is super.

harv
08-30-2005, 08:43 AM
Thanks fellas - you guys are great.

Stack...standing leg press. Damn I wish I had a picture. It'a s machine with a weight stack, 45 degree but feet are lower than your body. Your upper body lays flat with supports over your shoulders and the whole platform you lay on slides up and down. Don't know if I explained it right buit I like it better than the standard leg press machines.

Coke - thanks man, but I couldn't tell if you your were being seious or sarcastic about the 5 days rest...

So you pulled 465x5 after having a 16 year break eh. WTF!
I know you do sldl's, but have you been doing conventional deads or any other DL variation with any consistency or was that the first time you have done any form of deadlift (baring SLDL's) in 16 years.
Also, If it wasn't for your knee, 465x5 would probably put your 1RM at 500+.
I want your strength.

Coca: Coke - thanks, I gotta say, your pull sessons have inspired me.

Stack: Well - it was more like 465x1 plus 4 reps of rack pulls, but no, other than sldl's I havent done any variation of deads in 16 years. In fact - the ONLY time I did deads was once in a powerlifting meet in high school.
Once again - thanks for the props bro.

Coke: Thank you...you're a monster!
Venom: ha - thanks the lats grow easily for me. Actually, I've never maxed in DL. that 495x1 was the most I've ever done. I'll have to try it next session. Based on how 495 felt - I probably didn't have another wheel in me (585) but at least a hubcap (545). We'll see.

OK today was supposed to be leg day, but I tweaked my bad knee playing volleyball last week so I'm going to give it the week off.

Bulking update:
Well - I started bulking a couple months ago. At that time my bodyweight was 202-205. Well, now I'm 213-215 but the suprising part is: I think I'm the about the same bodyfat (new pic). The pic is a lousy pose but shows my midsection.

So, I may not necessarily be bulking but I'm sure liking the results!!
