Hey,
Im 15 years old about 5'9" and weigh 185. I can bench press around 260. I am wondering if I should be doing a lot more, or am I pretty good off being a freshman. I don't know anyboyd who can bench more than me other than a few seniors maybe. As far as freshman nobody can bench that much. I am wondering if this I am doing pretty well or not?

Here we go again...

Generally speaking (and you probably need to adjust somewhat if you are heavy)...
Bench Press: 1.5 x bdwt = good, 2 x bdwt. = outstanding
Squat/Deadlift: 2 x bdwt = good, 3 x bdwt. = outstanding

Nope, thats terrible. At 15 you should be doing at least 400 ibs or more. You're weak.

Im also curious as to what the lower body is capable of. With a bench of 260 I would say anything above a 350lb squat and deadlift would be respectable. When I was 15 I was only benching something like 245 but I was squating 495 and deading about 425. I dont remember the exact numbers but those are very close. If you want to be taken seriously as a strong person youll need more then a big bench.

It seems every 15 yr old on this board can bench 250+ pounds. Personally, I have never seen anyone that young even come close to 260 pounds, which is not to say that it is impossible, but somehow I don't think everyone on the internet is telling the truth.

im 15 and i hit 200 lbs just 3 months into training... two months later im still there though. ive decided that my triceps are just too damn weak to bench more so im going to do something about it starting very soon.

I graduate this year but i know a few 15 year olds in my school who can put up pretty good weight on bench, 240-270 range, its really weight and experience that counts not the fact that they happen to be 15. I think when i was 15 i was around 225 - 230.

Anyone who gets there bench up to 260 and squat to 425lbs and has to ask for a pat on the back on a forum is almost certainly bsing, and if hes not lying then thats pretty damn good for 15 years old.

I would imagine its the former. In highschool I didn't know anyone that could bench or squat that much, let alone a fifteen year old. If its not BS though, I am damned jealous.

Jorge.. You didn't know ANYBODY in high school that couldn't bench 260? I think you're exaggerating a bit.. Plenty of the upper class in our high school can well bench over 300. Anyways; I don't see why this guy has to ask for approvement when he pretty much answered his question by saying something among the lines of "I don't know any other freshmen that can bench this much" or whatever he said.. Ohh well, if you can really get that much at 15 that's dang good. My 215 looks puny

My cousin and me are both 16, so we're both gonna be Juniors once the school year starts again.

Right now my cousin, Skip, is benching 360 and squatting 800. He's also push-pressing 250. Talk about a beast! And he only weighs 240!

I've been tellin him for years that he must be XYY or somethin.

Squat claims are almost ALWAYS exaggerated on the net.

Tons of people squat over 400 lbs on the net.

The reason for this is not necessarily that they are lying, it is that they confuse a partial squat with a parallel or below squat. People might as well not even post squat claims on the net without a video because there is no point.

I have only seen 1 15 year old that strong. I call him "big little bastard Jr." I think his max is around 260 or 270

He is stronger than my friend that has been lifting for 6 years(but my friend is weak as hell for lifting that long)

He is also sub 10% BF and does about 60 sets for chest more than once per week and I never see him train anything but chest, tri's and back once in a while.

hehehe... yeah, he might be lying about the 800 pounds-I've never actually watched him do it. But he beats out everyone on Varsity in push press, and calf raises.

But the weird thing is the only exercise he ever gets is weight training on Mon. and Thurs. and he hardly ever shows up. I asked him how he gets so big, and he said he just eats a whole lot and lifts every once in a while.

Is this normal? Or maybe he IS genetically meant to be like that...

KevinStarke
07-02-2005, 09:59 AM
good genetics can make him pretty strong and calve raises arnt something i've ever seen anybody max out on but no matter how good your genetics are 16 year old bones would shatter under the weight of an 800 lb barbell.

jack_of_all
07-02-2005, 12:14 PM
their have been guys at my school with benches like that, but the squat is friggan rediculous, many olympia contestants (i know, not pl'ers but still those guys are HUGE) are squatting in 800s for a max. for a 16 year old to squat 800 to paralell would be such gifted genetics he could be the biggest strongest person the world would ever see. absolutley 0% chance of it happening. i mean really, we are talking about him shattering all squat records in existance since he is like 2/3 there in just a few years of training.

Guess you didn't read it then. That thread is based on facts. These facts are results in powerlifting competitions that are available doing a Google search. But I guess that facts don't prove anything either

And if you had read the bench and squat that Mr. Sanchez was talking about you would have seen that the bench was 260 and the squat was 425. There are 15 year olds that do bench and squat that much. Period.

My point was, (which you completely missed) that there are some very strong teenagers out there.

Unholy

800lb squat :p , most lifters on this site's big three don't add up to that.

No doubt there are some strong teenagers around, im pretty strong forr a 17 year old and i know some real strong 16 year olds too. My disbelief was just the 800 squat.

ROFL...that made me laugh so hard. That's going in my sig man. Feel proud.

And I don't necessarily doubt that this kid benches 260, but if he does, why the heck does he need a pat on the back like others have pointed out? He probably goes halfway down like 50% of lifters do.
