I give myself B-12 shots quite regularly. I just purchase the B-12 ampoules and insulin needles OTC at any pharmacy in Canada, no script required. Is it available this way in the US, or do you need a prescription? Any problems getting the darts?

I've heard of Vince Gironda doing this back in the day. Is this still even a little bit widely practiced? And b/c I'm too lazy to look it up right now, and my mind is fried from my workout, is the main reason for injection simply faster uptake?

Digestion messes up absorption. I really like my shots.

whats b-12 good for, and are the effects worth the trouble of shooting it up?

Hardly any trouble. You don't feel a slin pin, and it only costs about 80 cents a shot.

You didn't answer the first part of his question. What's it used for? :)

Energy, appetite, but it can also cause imbalances with your other B vitamins if you're not careful.

Oh, sorry. I mostly just take it as cheap insurance, especially while dieting and doing the amount of exercise that I do. It seems to make me feel a lot stronger, more energized. There are lots of problems with deficiency (google it - it's everywhere), but you just pee out what you don't need.

Tell me more. I haven't noticed any trouble yet, but I take B-50 every day as well as my shots.

Is it B-12 or B-6 that is used to increase appetite?

B-12 I think (I LOVE to eat - I don't notice the difference LOL!). I just can't get over how GOOD I feel in the days after my shot. My workouts have been so much stronger.

Wouldn't you NOT want to use it for your cut then? I guess if it has no effect on your particular appetite then it doesn't matter, but I've heard that it does for some people.

It's something I read/heard awhile ago, but when I did some searching I couldn't find anything concrete. Best I could find was that if you're deficient in one B vitamin, you're probably deficient in others. Here's some good info: http://healthinfo.healthgate.com/GetContent.aspx?token=2f013354-aed3-4319-b034-45acd76f4b1c&chunkiid=21679

It has no effect on my appetite. I just feel stronger and more energized. The best I can describe is like I've had an injection of really good sleep.

Anthony, I know SOME B vitamins can make you go out of whack if they're out of balance, but I didn't think B-12 was one of 'em. The worst I've read is mild skin rash if you go crazy with it, and I haven't had this happen to me yet.

Bumping for my original question, is injectable B-12 OTC in the US as it is in Canada, and is there ever any trouble buying slin pins from the pharmacy without a script?

Could be. I know a lot of people here who take the shots quite regularly.

I think the pyschological effect of simply sticking something in my butt would make me feel badass.

And don't you kids getting any crazy ideas, I'm talking needles.

It's a slin pin. I doubt she's sticking it in her ass.

haha fair enough, Slim

getfit, I doubt it would matter much where you inject, but I could be wrong. I know nothing about B-12.

I shoot it in the delt or the quad. Doesn't matter at all.

Taking the compelx is good insurance against an imbalance

That's what I was figuring. Since B-12 is the one that has the most problems being absorbed orally, I shoot it and swallow the rest.

My WORD that sounds bad when I read it back.

Glad I could find this thread.

I was reading again at bodybuilding.com and I came across a thread on injectable b12. I'm really interested in the appetite increasing effects as appetite is still an ongoing problem for me.

Are you still injecting b12 built? You mentioned you saw no increase in appetite, is your appetite ever a problem?

I still give myself a shot every few weeks, yeah. I should do one soon, actually. Thanks for the reminder.

My appetite is legendary. I had a tummy bug this last week and it knocked out my appetite - I can't even BEGIN to tell you how weird it was to not be hungry for a few days.

Well, 3 pharmacies later and a long wait and I finally got some injectable b-12. I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was, 10cc and 10 pins were just under $8 cdn.

The first few pharmacies I tried just told me right away that I would need a prescription. Then I finally just asked one to show me proof that it isn't available OTC. A few hours later, they called me back and told me no prescription was required.

I did a 1cc shot today in the glute, first time injecting anything myself, kind of awkward. I figure I'll do 3 1cc injections per week, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.

Theres no reason to do 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, B vitamins are water soluable and dont stay in your system for very long.. its only the Fat soluable Vits like A,D,E,K that you have to watch out for..

also make sure your taking in a B complex daily with shots or else it wont make too much a differnece. Bs need to be taken together since they work synergistically with each other and if your only taking the B12 you could get an imbalance in others.

Built, here in good old Utah in the usa I went to a pharm and aks if they sold it, and they said they are all perscription required....

But you can buy it online.....

Does anyone in the US get this stuff? I am curious about it too....
