Well, i figured it's about time i start a journal. Actually, CC made me do it. :)

I'm 5'9 150lbs right now. I was up to 155lbs 5 weeks ago, and then a lot of stuff came up, and long story short, i just had a 5 week layoff of working out and it sucks. I lost 8lbs and was at 147lbs a week ago. I started back up again with 100% dedication on Tuesday. My scale is broken so i'm not sure what i weigh now after the first week but i'm positive i'm at least 150 again, easily. I'll be back at 155 in a week. Coming off of this layoff sucks big time, but so far it's going good. After the first week, the reps are already starting to feel "good" again.

I haven't really thought of any specific goals atm, maybe i should. I'm going hardcore and trying to gain as much weight as i can before senior year, starting september. I'll be a lot heavier/bigger by then.

My routine right now is -

Monday - Lower
ATF Squats: 3 x 8
SLDL: 3 x 8
Leg extensions: 3 x 8
Leg Curl: 2 x 8
Standing calf raises: 3 x 10
Seated calf raises: 2 x 10

Tuesday - Upper
Flat BB bench: 3 x 8
Military Press: 3 x 8
BB rows: 3 x 8
Chin ups: 3 x as many as i can (performed slow as hell)
Bench dips: 3 x 8
Ez curl bar curls: 3 x 8

Wednesday - off

Thursday - Lower
Deadlift: 3 x 8
SLDL: 3 x 8
Leg extensions: 3 x 8
Leg Curl: 2 x 8
Standing calf raises: 3 x 10
Seated calf raises: 2 x 10

Friday - Upper
Flat BB bench: 3 x 8
Arnold Press: 3 x 8
BB rows: 3 x 8
Chin ups: 3 x as many as i can (performed slow as hell)

I'd like to throw some incline DB bench work in sometime soon, but i already have a lot of volume so i'm not sure exactly where and when i'm gonna throw that in...haven't thought about it much yet.

That's about it, i'm gonna put up my session today in a little bit. (Worked out today, on saturday, just because my first week back schedule was a little messed up...back to normal schedule on monday.)

Todays session was awesome. My lifts are all down so that's a bummer, but the reps are starting to feel good already again and my lifts are rising already. The main lifts, benching/squatting/deadlifting should raise every week real good for a while.

I don't have any good updated pics right now. I'll take some in a month or two...I have a back double bi pic from 2 months ago in my profile or whatever here on wbb. Besides that...a decent tri shot.

Take out one of the BB Rows or Pullups from either day and throw in some shrugs. Also, take out SLDL from deadlift day and put in Front Squats.

I thought about the shrugs...Deadlifts are what have blown up my traps so far. The deadlifts and SLDL's seem to work my traps very well. That's why i haven't been too worried about shrugs. I may add them in though. What if i took out chinups from ONE day a week, and did shrugs?

I've never done front squats yet. I'll haveta look into those. I'll try em next deadlift day and see how it goes. I'll most likely keep those in there instead of SLDL's on the second day then.

I think your better off stickin with the chins......also you'll probly notice soon its better to split up your routine into even more specific areas, not just upper and lower

I've already done a couple other routines that were not upper and lower. I, personally, like the upper/lower split much more than any other routine i have done. But thanks..

I plan to keep my chins in both days. Like i said, the deadlifts work my traps well. In the future if my traps start to lag then i'll have to put shrugs in, but for now i'm fine.

You can alternate in hang cleans for shoulders, and these hit traps too.

Front squats are MURDER! I agree that SLDLs and regular deads need to be split up - I do deads on a back day, SLDLs on a leg day.

Nice to see the weights all coming back up so quick after your hiatus.

I never said drop the chins all together, but rather drop them on one of that days. For me, this is what worked best. Just shrugs never did much for my traps. Just deadlifts did more but not enough for my traps. It wasn't until I put heavy DLs followed by heavy shrugs that my traps blew up. Mine, that is.

Glad you're back in the gym, pinky.

Static holds work my traps so much better than deads/shrugs its not even funny. You can just pile 45's onto the BB and all you have to do is hold it as long as you can. Plus it is a great grip work exercise.

Damn these were intense. First deadlifts since i started up again...I was sweating like crazy. 6 weeks ago i was doing 235 for sets, so i guess this isn't bad. I'll be back up to 235 in no time. I plan to change my sets/reps around a little bit on these and my squats...A couple sets heavier, 4-6reps, and a couple sets in the 8 range.

I decided to throw in lunges on my deadlift lower body day, instead of SLDL's. This was my first time doing lunges ever. They made me sweat insanely after a few reps. lol...Damn those are tiring.

Meh. Workout was alright, nothing special. I sweated my ass off on the deadlifts and lunges, they freaking killed me. I can't wait to get my deadlift back up...Legs are a weak point along with chest. I plan to work my ass off on my legs and get these babys up to par.

Some good news though - I'm sure it's just mental, but i swear after bulking hardcore again for a week so far, i already think i look bigger/meatier. lmao

Overall, not a bad workout today. My bench sets went up since saturday. I'll probably have to do 130 again on Friday, but should be able to do 135 next Tuesday no prob.

My workout got cut short today. Something came up so i had to finish quick and didn't have time to do chinups, and had to take a set away from bi's and tri's. Oh well, the Rows were good today.

I did a lot of chest work today. Well, more than my routine calls for. I decided i'm going to start doing a lot more chest work, so i'm going to do this all the time now. I'm tired of my chest being weak and looking small. I'm going to try the extra work and see how that goes. Probably starting 4 sets of bench each Upper body day, along with the flies and incline DB's.

I worked out here at my dads today. Damn it's way sweeter. lol. My set up is crap at my moms house. Here my dad has the sweetest weight room set up. It sucks so bad not having mirrors, here there are plenty of huge mirrors. And damn the stereo system rocks. This was the most enjoyable workout lol. I'm gonna start working out here all the time.

Time to go eat. Lower on Thursday...

Oh, and one more thing. After my 5 week break, i was down to 146lbs which is baddd. It's been exactly one week so far, and i weighed myself today and i'm up to 152lbs. :D ...170 here i come

I felt fine while doing that set, but afterwards i had this pain in the lower left side of my back. For the past couple years, even before i started lifting, i've always had back pains on and off all the time, and i still do, so i'm going to go to get it checked out sometime soon. I decided to do lunges for the next two sets because of my back.

I worked out here at my dads again today, and the bench doesn't have leg stuff, so i had to use his machine. Now i know why i never used machines lol. That machine is so f'd up. At the beginning of a rep, it's like twice as hard as the weight should be, but right after you get through the beginning, the weight flies up easily...lol so these were weird.

I go to do leg curls on the stupid machine and find out that those were even more messed up than doing the leg extensions were. I hated it so i just stopped after like 3 reps.

I wanted to do something more for my hammies so i decided to give the SLDL's another shot since the pain was gone.

No pain this time, all good...I don't understand what happened the first time around, my form was just as good...

Overall

Like i said, really messed up workout because of that back pain i got after my first set of SLDL's, and then the machine totally threw me off.

Besides everything going unaccording to plan, the ATF squats kicked ass which is always good. I'm really happy my squats are coming up. I recently had to learn the right form for squats and had to start at 95lbs heh. Thank god it's getting back up there. :D :D

Nice work on the squats!

Brutal when you have to go down in weight to do a movement correctly - props for facing that one. Better to kill your ego NOW and get it right, than to do half-assed squats and get half-assed results.

My legs are KILLING me from yesterday. I finally got up to a decent weight in my squats (using right form) so my quads are completely dead for the first time in a long time.

Standing up is torture lol.

Overall...

Killer freaking workout. I hate doing the extensions and curls and raises, but i love the big lifts. They freaking killed me today, like usual. The two last squat sets were the hardest sets of my life and the SLDL's always kill me. I think the SLDL's wear me out just as much as squats, they're killer.

I'm so worn out. lol

Last week i weighed myself at 156lbs. The scale here is broken so i can't weigh myself right now, but i know i've put on some lbs. I'm positive i'm *at least* 158lbs now. So close to 160 if i'm not. :D Heaviest i've ever been heh. woohoo

Lol, the squat gettin' up there alright...damn weak legs. When i start doing sets of 200, i won't feel like a little pansy ass when it comes to legs anymore.

I got good news, and bad news...

Bad news - I just bought a bunch of new shirts 2-3 months ago. They no longer fit me. What a waste, now i have to spend more money that i don't have on new clothes now that i hardly have any.

Good news - That means i'm getting bigger. :D Specifically the chest and shoulders while trying to wear my old too small shirts. :)

Bad. Bad. Bad. Plus i did a couple sets of really light flies (because i couldnt work out at my dads today, and i dont have enough DB weight here), so i just really squeezed em hard to get some blood pumpin there.

Reps 6-8 on the last two sets didn't have the greatest ROM. Goal for next time is to do all sets of 135 with all good ROM.

I'm PRETTY SURE the reps for the last two sets are right. I can't remember exactly, but it should be right. I fixed my form on these. Before i had a way wider grip and then i checked the form on exrx.net or whatever that site is, and realized the guys hands were in way farther than mine, so i started doing it right. I like my hand positioning WAY better now (just outside shoulder width). I feel it in my shoulders 5 times more now, and i can lift more.

Chin-Ups
9 or 10 X BW (Either 9 or 10, i lost count on the 7th rep from someone talking to me lol)

Cheated a little on the last rep or two of both. Bicep work is so freaking hard at the end of the workout after the rows and chin-ups. Going into curls, my biceps are already beyond dead. I don't think i might do 80, 85, next time for betting form. My bi's are just too dead to handle much weight. Oh well, i like doing a LITTLE isolated work, so i figure that's better than nothing even though my bi's are already dead.

My ROM wasn't the greatest on these so maybe i should lower the weight next time for better ROM. Not really sure.


OVERALL

I added shrugs in today because i really really would like to get my traps to blow up. Maybe they'll help...

Overall workout was good. I got some PR's and everything went well and felt good, except for benching today. I DID do 5 more lbs than last time, but i didn't do as well as i thought i would and hoped for. I figured i'd get the 145 up 6 times, and then 4 times. But instead, it only went up 4 times the first try. I didn't feel like lowering the weight so then i just did 3 reps on the next one.

I'm pretty disappointed on the benching. I'm eating hardcore and making fridays bench workout a good one, hopefully. heh

I'm not sure what to do. My workouts have a lot of volume and they take a lot of time to finish...and i just added shrugs so now there's even move work.

I'll just have to cut a LITTLE rest time out to keep the workout to one hour and no longer.

Problem is, i planned to do more chest work. Notice today i didn't do the incline DB benching. How the hell am i gonna do the added chest work like i want to, if my workout is already this long.

I can't make my workout take anymore time, so i'm not sure what i'm gonna do.

You dont need 12 sets a week for your back. You dont need more chest work either, 8 sets a week is enough.

I just PREFER the added chest work. I'd like to start hitting it harder, just personal preference. I just feel the added work would do my chest better than just benching so i planned on trying it out.

As far as back goes, how's that too much back work? lol seems fine to me and it's apparently been working well.

Hahaha nice. Things are looking pretty strong and proportional. Those shrugs looked pretty heavy.

12 sets for back is more than enough, you can do with less but I wouldn't say 12 sets would kill you. Again, it's up to you. But if you're adding shrugs, realize that's just more back work. No need to add EVEN more back exercises on top of that.

My workout was a little shorter, couple less sets than normal, just because i was exhausted today.

Awesome workout. I've always worked my legs, but my squats never got anywhere. My form used to kinda suck and i just couldn't get my squats to go up well. I'm sooo freaking psyched right now. My squats are finally rising, and rising freaking awesome at that. :D

I was thinking, and talking to a friend...

Maybe i tryed to increase my bench too fast. One day i thought i could do more reps at 145, but it turns out, i only did 4 reps, then 3 reps. I didn't want to lower the weight so i stuck with it, and now i'm doing 5 reps, and 4 reps!! Ha ha.

I'm willing to try anything with my bench, so next workout i'm going to do 140 instead of 145 and see how that goes. Maybe increasing the weight a tad slower will help.

Who knows....

I was doing dumbell bench long before i did flat bench and i feel that really helped. I did only dumbell benching till i was able to rep 60's and do some good reps with 70s, then whent i started bb benching i started doing 155 for reps and 185 for lower reps. Try blasting your dumbell bench, just my thoughts.

I think i'm going to just DB bench for a while. I need to buy more DB weight before my next upper workout though, because i don't have anywhere near enough right now.

I hate my bench for BB benching anyways. If i lay where i'm most comfortable on the bench, with my ass in the crack pretty much, and i have a good solid base, then when i try to bench, i hit the top of my bench with the bar. My bench doesn't slide forward or backward, so that really sucks.

So i end up having to bench being uncomfortable.

I just tested it with the light dumbbells i have though, and with DB's, i can be perfectly comfortable in my spot, and not hit the bench at the top.

So yeah, i'm goin with DB's for a while...

Dont worry about your gains or if anything is being ******ed. Read my journal to find all about that.... i mean I have to be the only person who lost like 300lbs on their squats ever. Sometimes your body likes to be stupid, mine does.

Just stay focused on your goals and youll get there.

Dumbbells are great for pec work. Be prepared to swallow your ego for a bit - because your stabilizers are so heavily involved, your weights will go down substantially. But I think you'll find you'll be VERY happy with the results.

I bought a scale two days ago because ours broke a long time ago. My weight is very disappointing. My diet has sucked big time for over a week now, and my weight is the same as when i weighed myself 3 weeks ago. Greeattt. I'm suprised my lifts have even been going up with the way i've been eating.

I'm done jackin' around. Not messing up my eating again. Hardcore starting toady. (I say this all the time lmao)

Yep. Lately i've missed some workouts. I have to stop letting things get in the way. But i'm workin' on it. I'm really pushing myself now, well i always have, but especially now because senior year starts pretty soon. :D

But for the most part i've done pretty good, not the greatest, but good. :) Lookin' like a totally different person from over 6 months ago, and it's awesome.

My mom made the most idiotic comment today rofl. I don't have a power rack, just a lame squat rack on my bench. So, for my two heavy sets of squats, i had my mom come down and just make sure i could get back up towards the end. I did one set, and then was taking a breather before the second one...
I go up to the bar, just about to do my second set, and my mom goes, "You do exercises for your legs too, and not just your upper body, right?" I looked at her like she was an idiot.

I figured it was common sense that squats work your legs....Apparently not.

Im going to take your routine b/c 3days a week makes me feel lazy. Do you do you deads in a squat rack or just in open area?

I just do my deads in an open area off the floor. I do my squats in a lame squat rack on my bench. It works, but i have to make sure i don't kill myself.

I just ate so freakin' much it's not even funny. Hot wings, mmmmmmm. This was the biggest meal i've ever eaten. lol

You're catching up on squats. 75lbs away now. Though it's normal to see a large increase after starting ATFs. I went from 6 at 185 to repping 225 for 6 in just a matter of weeks as well.

I'm the same as yesterday or whenever we talked, and my weight is actually only 159lbs. That's in the afternoon wearing my basketball shorts and shoes.

I gotta be consistent with me eating. Yesterday i tracked on fitday and did/am today too. I gotta keep it up this time.

But i said hell no. Heh. I did the workout with no music :cry: Ugh, no music is horrible.

Towards the end of my workout my stepdad got pissed because of my weights "clanking" and making some noise, so he marches down here and gets in my face and we got into it big time because he acts like a dickhead. I finished my workout anyways. :)

Oh yeah...It was a pretty solid workout. Nothing to complain about. Deadlifts or Squats tomorrow. I think i'm going to go with Deads.

Yeah i'm still eating. I'm putting on weight a little slower now but there's no noticable fat gain so that's good. I'm gaining like 2lbs a week atm, which is still a lot.

I decided to do some weighted ab work just now, so i just did 3 sets of 8-12 with some nice weight being held behind my head. I haven't done weighted ab work in a long time now, so i figured the ab work wouldn't be a bad idea to help strengthen my core.

I should start doing these once a week, and i will.

Most aggervating (sp?) workout ever. It took me an hour and 45mins to do because stupid shiit kept happening.

Last workout i noticed my DB's were feeling kinda weird, and after benching today i thought the same thing, so i inspected them. They're the stupid adjustable DB's and mine suck. They were uneven and all Fukced up. It's really hard to explain on here. There's this "stopper" type piece on each side of the DB. It goes, stopper type piece then the weights then the screw on piece to hold the weights on. So anyways, the stopper pieces were moved wayyy outa position. WTF, those things arn't supposed to move. It's part of the freaking DB and isn't supposed to move. I had like hardly any grip space in the middle anymore and it's because the stupid stopper things were pushed in and they were all way uneven, so my DB's were completely fukced up. It took me 25 minutes to get the stupid things in place so then i continued my workout. Oh, and i cut my finger open fixing the stupid things.

Then..

I don't have a weight belt so when i do weighted chinups, i take heavy duty tape, and basically tape a 25lb to the bottom of my shoes. Only way i can think of doing it lol. So i go to do those and the tape breaks three damn times on me. Wtf, it's never broken before and then today it breaks three times. It ruined three freaking sets and then gave me a million hours of rest time in between all of the attempts because i had to retape and crap.

Halfway through the workout, with all the stupid crap happening and making my workout drag on, i was STARVING. My stomach was growling like crazy and i felt sick...it was a blast working out while starving.

On a side note -

My house almost went up in flames just now, rofl. I'm the only one home, and i keep hearing shiit pop upstairs. I didn't think anything of it at all. I kept hearing popping noises, so i was like what the hell... So i go upstairs and there's a hand towel (pretty big one) up in flames on the counter and the kitchen floor, and the living room, has black ash all over the freaking place and the kitchen was filling with smoke. The towel had obviously been burning for a while because it was almost completely melted, so i just grabbed a glass of water and put it out.

So now there's just black ash every freaking where, and a melted towel on the counter, and other black melted shiit all over the counter.

I dunno how it happened, but i'm assuming it was one of my moms candles, with the windows open and a heavy breeze, that started it. She can clean it up when she gets home lol, i must eat now.

On my last set of deadlifts today, well after the last set, i was walking around catching my breath and just being pumped from the nice deads i just finished, and i saw something red on my hand so i look, and one of my calluses got torn off. lol

It's freaking deep. It's still attached by a quarter of it, but most of it is torn and it's deep. I feel like part of my hand is missing lmao, because the chunk hanging is thick as hell

Oh well, another blood stain on my olympic bar, i feel hardcore. :D

I actually moisturize kinda a lot. I have natrually dry skin so everytime i get out of the shower i moisturize, otherwise i feel uncomfortable and itchy.

The chalk while deadlifting probably doesn't help them though. But i love the chalk :D

Doing deadlifts and lunges both is good, but with them pr's to show for it is damn good - super nice work!!

I had to go in and register for school today. For those of you who didn't know, i was homeschooled this past year, long story, messed up in school my first two years, etc. I haven't been in that school since sophomore year, and that was a year and a half ago or something.

I was talking to my counselor and my assistant principle walked by, who i've known my whole life and is the coolest guy, but i haven't seen him since sophomore year. We said what's up to eachother and shook hands and stuff, and he's like, "Man, you've gotten bigger." :D

Lol i was so pysched that he said that. I can't wait to see everybody. They all know me as a 130lb stick figure kid. It's gonna be fukcing great.
