I've heard that calories consumed right before you go to sleep are stored as fat. Is there any truth to that? How long before bed should I consume my last calories?
I'm currently bulking if that makes any difference. Is it good or bad to have a protein shake right before sleeping?
thanks

There are lots of threads on this, search it. Yes it's good to consume protein/food before bed.

Thanks smalls. Btw, I tried searching but it's temporarily broken (PHP error).
I guess this means it's time to go eat! :)

That's exactly what it means. Total calories are going to make or break your diet goals, but getting slow digesting foods before bed will help to prevent catabolism throughout the night. I would suggest lots of whole foods, fat and fiber slow digestion and I usually get 50g of protein in that meal, minimum.

Even while cutting, I eat protein and fat at bedtime - usually cottage cheese with natty PB and a chunk of apple.

What about carbs before bed? Is that bad if it's part of your total daily goal?

yes, they are fine.
If you eat carbs before bed you'll die in your sleep.
That or your upper chest won't grow anymore.

your largest Growth Hormone spike happens jus 2 hours after u fall asleep, general rule seems to be not to eat anything too Carb heavy later than 2 hours before going to sleep.
Its just to make sure your Insulin level isn't high so it doesn't interfere with your GH spike u get after you fall asleep. Extra GH is always lovely ;)
