im 15, a guy, 5'5.5'' and 180-185 lbs, 30% bf (ouch  ).

i tried looking online for calorie calculators but it seems like the results are probably squewed because of my fat% being fo high, i decided that 1800 cals a day would be good. if you want to see my basic outline of my diet check in my journal (which is linked in my sig). im really not looking to have it critiqued, im mostly concerned as to whether my overall calorie scheme is appropriate. in my journal drew reccomended 2200, but relative to me he has a good bit more lbm so it would make sense that he would need more even though we are similar height and weight.

thoughts?

What are YOUR maintenance cals? (NOT a calculated value - but the measurement found from tracking YOUR food for a few days or a week on www.fitday.com)

Find this number, then drop it by about 10-15% to start.

For example, if YOUR maintenance cals are 3000 a day, you could begin a cut on around 2500-2700 cals and see where that takes you.

well as far as my energy levels go i dont think that im too far off on the cals, should i really stop my cut and postpone it for a week when im probably within just 50-100 cals off anyway?

If I was you I would keep it at 1800. Hopefully that works and it isn't too high. I would keep it there and just hope it works. What does your routine look like? Nevermind I'll just checkout your journal.

BTW I doubt your maintanence is over 2300. I'm 168.5lbs, 5"8, at 16% bf or so and my maintanence is 2300.

Now you could do what drew said and go with 2200. That might work, but yea is has alot more lbm than you do I think, especially on his legs. His bf is also like 12% or so I think, so there is a difference.

I am gaining strength at 1800 cals a day btw, so it is possible, but it really depends on how effective your routine is I think.

I'm a middle-aged woman who weighs under 140 lbs, and MY maintenance cals are 2300.

some people have weird metabolisms built, your lbm compared to mine might not be THAT far off.

also, since ive been on what i would describe as an involunary bulk, i have no way of knowing what my maintenance cals are because im in a state of natural weight gain, i eat more w/o thinking about it.

Built is giving you the best advice. Track your calories for a week or two. Eat normally, ect... and there's your maintainance. Take in 10% less cals/week. Adjust according to results. This is the healthiest, easiest way to diet while sparing muscle. Moderation.

i started my diet in the end of april... just cut my calories down to about 1700-1800 and ive lost 3 inches off my waist and about 18lbs. I didnt figure out my maintanence calories... i just adjusted to where I was losing 1.5-2 lbs a week.. so now i figure my maintenance level is around 2300-2500

i started 188 now im 170... 5'10
