right now my max bench is around 220 n my football coach wants all the linemen to be benchin around 300 by the time the season starts n so that means ive only got about 5 weeks or so to gain a lot. i read all these threads about eat eat eat and gain muscle but im also tryin to lose some weight. my diet is probably really bad too cuz im pretty new to all this n i don't kno what kinds of foods to eat and is there any way to gain that much strength so fast.

In 5 weeks take a bench of 220 to 300...No not possible

especially while cutting

it depends on a few things, these tips are only helpful if your NOT already doing them

1. you cant cut, otherwise your sure not to make it.

2. get LOTS of cals and protein, you need to GAIN weight

3. if your not on creatine, start.

4. when benching, arch your back (still keep your shoulders and butt on the bench) also a wider grip may help you, make sure youve at least got something on the rings. also flex your lats at that bottom and use triceps as much as possible, try to pull the bar apart. make sure to touch down around your nipples, not your neck and maximize your leg drive, really push with your heels.

5. you may want to bench with bad form, depending on how the other football players' form is, you may be able to get away with a half rep or a chest bounce or even lift your butt off the bench.

6. you could also go on AAS if your not opposed to it.

NOTE: i dont condone steps 5 and 6, they can help but bring about some risks i wouldnt advocate risking nor would i do them myself.

No way, theres no way you can go from 220 to 300lbs in just over one month. Thats adding 80lbs to your max in 35 days. It wont happen. Like it matters anyway, you throw the biggest baddest 600lb+ benching linemen at me... if I get lower then he does Ill pancake his ass.

get a bench shirt

06-27-2005, 09:38 PM
^^^ what he said just like (I dunno if its possible) but wear a hoodie or something and just have a bench shirt under it :)

forgot that part, but yeh, be as cheap as possible in every way. you CAN conceal a bench shirt but you could get caught. id go with crappy form too.

Most people that I've meet have no idea what a bench shirt is. I would suggest getting one and wearing some underarmour coldwear over it. I think you would be set then.

what i don't get is that you are tryin to lose weight and you are a linemen....odd?...all i gots to say is that a 220lb linemen is puny (not a shot at you)....and why worry about your bench...i would rather tell my linemen to squat and deadlift their butts off because like WBBIRL said you get under them and drive with your LEGS it don't matter what they bench.....you heard of De La Salle?...they aint got no massive benches but some killer legs and TECHNIQUE

i was just kiddin about the bench shirt, they'd be wondering why our arms are sticking straight out and unable to move hah. Im no football player but i remember when i would lift in my school weightroom after school the football team lifting regiments consisted of lots of squatting and cleaning, not benching.

If you can conceal a bench shirt, I promise it won't help your lift. :)

haha yah, you should of seen some of the guys at the competition i was just at, they looked like they were in agony in these things and they walked like mummies, arms straight out.

06-28-2005, 09:39 AM
Thats a funny thing to picture, also you probably wouldnt be able to get it on yoruself.

06-28-2005, 11:34 AM
yah, guys were bracing themselves on support beams and yanking themselves forward as 2-3 other guys were yanking the shirt backwards to get it on right... doestn look like a one man job.

I remeber watching a Da La Salle game, i Think it was the national HS football championship game. Not very big guys, but hella fast off the ball and had superb technique.

you can EASILY make up some bs about why your arms arent at your sides if they dont know what a bench shirt is. you could get your family and/or close friends to help put it on you. and if you look that much like a mummy, why not dress up like one? hell, youll be a pioneer in wearing haloween atire not on haloween :D
