Is a post workout protein shake better than a post workout food? When u eat food, you use energy to chew and digest, while a drink you just chug it down. Some people say protein shakes are unnecessary but if you think about this, protein shakes begin to sound important.

People may disagree with me here but:
Whey protein has the best amino acid profile so i personally have two whey shakes a day at least as part of my meals.
The rest usually come from real food, unless it is impractible so i have more whey shakes or a protein bar or whatever i can get my grubby little hands on.
These two shakes tend to be one before a workout and one after a workout. Whey is digested quite quickly so straight after trainning, in my opinion is a great time to have one. Not a necessity though.
i have protien shakes only when it is a big advantage to take them, like after workout i have a extremely fast digesting protien shake and before bed i have a slow acting shake. Otherwise i just eat meat for my protein

yes.
a post workout shake is better then a post workout meal. not just a protein shake, get some carbs and fat in there.
i like to have a shake right after my workout then an hour - hour and a hald later have a whole food meal.

remember fat slows down the absorbtion of carbs and protein so eating high fat food after training is not a good idea
