My dad is willing to buy my whey now, but I haven't asked him about dextrose yet. To get 10 lbs. of whey, it would cost 53 dollars. To get 10 lbs. of whey along with 8 lbs. of dextrose, it would cost 65.19 dollars. And this would last me about 2.5 months. My question is: is the dextrose really necessary?

I know that neither whey nor dextrose is absolutely necessary, but is dextrose as important as whey for Pre/Post-WO Shakes?

not as iportant, it is a delivery agent for the protein, You can also just have a piece of fruit or other fast carb righ after you work out and right before you have the shake to do pretty much the same thing, even the milk you mix with have 12g carbs per 8oz. Im glad you got some whey! I just ordered a 10lb bag myself. Did you get ON 100%?

Dextrose is a really cheap way to spike your insulin post workout.

If you're going to bother with the whey, you might as well do the dex.

Fruit is a slow carb. A faster carb would be something with a high GI, such as rice cakes.

Fructose acts differently from other sugars in that it doesn't stimulate a strong insulin response, so, no.

^word....fructose=slow digesting with small insulin response...dextrose=quick digesting with large insulin response...so in short...yes it would be worth it...

Coolie, what can I say, I learned somethign new today. But wait, I think I posted that I put bananas in my shakes and getfit said to put it on the avoid list because its a high GI food?

Can always buy a bag of smarties and chomp on those.

smarties are good...but i think if i ate enough of them every day to get the dexi needed i would get sick of the fruity goodness...

So, eating sugar from candy is the same as eating dextrose?

No, only if it's dextrose candy, like Smarties.

So, why doesn't everyone just get Smarties then? Isn't it way cheaper?

to add on to the fruit discussion, fruit isn't as optimal for PWO since fructose refills your liver glycogen but a higher glucose fruit like bananas are fine, just add in some other carbs as well.

Thanks for clearing that up.
