View Full Version : Low Calories but is the protein enough?

I'm cutting and supposed to maintain at 2380 cals/day. By for some reason or another I just don't feel like eating even though I'm doing more cardio. I wanna reach for that caloric goal but without adding the fat in. Today I ate about 1508 calories and I'm full. Even with this low caloric intake I'm getting anywhere from 250-400g of protein from my diet and 3 supplemental shakes. Frankly I use to eat more when I was a fatass before I started working out and now I just can't.

What I'm asking is, if it's okay to have lower calories as long as you get the protein? I know I'm getting it and during my bulk I didn't exceed 2900 cals/day and gained 30lbs of weight and literally a 100% increase in strength and mass.

Why don't you want to eat any fats?

Usual diet:

6 Egg whites raw
1 medium croissant
milk or water

10 am snack:
Protein Shake

protein shake
chicken breast large

tuna in water

large veal cutlet
spinach salad
Protein Shake

Totals: Cals: 1578
Fat: 37g
Carbs: 53g
Protein: 245
And that's on a day where my mum doesn't cook much meat. Somedays I get close to 500g of protein.

Are you sure? If I get fat I'm gonna get pissed. =D Thanks. I'm gonna go eat some PB. egg yolks contain fat don't they? Cholesterol?

My father has cholesterol problems so he doens't eat them at all. Or so he says...

Fats don't make you fat - excess calories do.

Healthy fats can actually help you LOSE fat, and help protect your LBM.

Okay, Thank you very very much. So do I have to eat 2380 calories? Because I'm getting plentiful amounts of protein from the way I live and decent amounts of fat I'd say.

I don't know if you need 2380 cals to cut or not. If you got that from some internet calculator, then I guarantee it's not accurate. You need to know how many cals. your body maintains it's weight at, then subtract from there. to me 1580 cals doesn't seem like a lot and if you eat too little your body will go into starvation mode and you will start to hold on to all fat and burn muscle, which obviously isn't good. You say you bulked at 2900 right? well how fast did you gain weight. If it was 1 lb. a week then you know your maintnance is aroudn 2400. you should try to maintain for a week or two and then slowly decrease cals. If you go from 2900 to 2300 in a weeks time, you may lose weight at first but stall soon after because your body thinks you are starving yourself and that's when you start to hold onto fat and your metabolism slows down.

Yea it was around one pound. The calculation is from someone here on this board. They told me -15% of your maintenance or something.

Only other thing I can think of is less protein shakes, more real food if you can. Or keep the protein shakes and add more real food anyways. Do you take fish/flax oil? Maybe try popping 4-6 pills in the morning. Thats 40-60 cals and some good fat/omegas.
