I was told that i should consume carbs immediately after my workout to restore glucose (glycogen stores that have been depleted)

I was wondering which is better dex or malodex for this? I do not know where to buy them either so if anyone knows of good sites with good prices please let me know.

I am currently using gatorade PWO but i am sick of it and hate the taste.

I really do not think you need either. Just spread your carbs over the course of the day, and make sure that you are taking in carbs pre/post workout. The carbs pre/post workout could be consumed about 60-90 minutes before training, and then again once your training session is over.

:withstupi as long as you are getting in something before you workout within a decent amount of time it wont matter so much

Gatorade sucks because of the fructose. (unless it's the powder)

If you're going to use a sugar, I'd suggest half malto, half dex if you have the choice. Their GIs are virtually identical, but dex is SWEEEEEET, malto is not. And they have differing olmolalities, which affects the rate of gastric emptying.

Malto too - I buy mine at a U-Brew. It's sold as a product to condition beer: "Brew Body".

I take a scoop of Maltodextrin immediately post-workout. This can be found in most supplement stores - I bought mine at popeye's.

This is a cool article if you'd like to check it out:

Just got Maltodextrin at a supplement place, very cheap and it is 100% better than gatorade.

I plan on taking it Post WO and we will see if i notice a difference in my energy (usually im super tired once i get home from the gym and dont have energy to do anything)

Bboy! You nailed it on the dot for me. I'm always tired for the rest of the night after a good workout and I've never had a PWO shake before. I just typically ate dinner within an hour of working out. I just ordered some dextrose and will be using this soon. Until it comes in, i'll stick to honey or OJ. Hope it makes me feel better. Try designing circuits around 8 at night after a workout, ouch... my head hurts.

Feeling energized for the whole day is important to me and my job. So if this works, i'll be very very excited.

sphillip, I'm not sure why you're doing oj or honey - too much fructose for post workout. You'd actually do better with a few rice cakes - higher GI.

Thanks built,
Now that you mention it, i did see something about rice cakes having a high GI rating. I'll try that until the dextrose comes in.

Built, do you ever get that tired feeling. Also I drink coffee in the morning to kick start my day, and green tea in the afternoon. any suggestions for a healthier way to get energy?

dont get me wrong its not like i wanna go out drinking, but i would like the option to go out and have dinner with a friend or see a movie without getting tired at like 9:30 lol.

I had a short workout today, legs, bi's and abs and i took my PWO. I am going out ot the mall and a movie hopefully i will have energy throughout the night.

go with straight dextrose, I put about 5 heaping tablespoons in my PWO. It makes it nice and sweet and makes ON whey taste great

If you are getting tired after your workout and you are consuming a PWO shake that is high in dextrose/maltodextrin, then I would speculate that this is due to the sudden rise and fall in insulin levels. I have seen nothing that would indicate high GI carbs are better than low GI carbs, assuming that you are having a meal an hour or two before training and one after training.

how about corn cakes? and would white bread do also?

EDIT: nevermind, just checked the GI of corn cakes and they're high too. i just prefer eating something that's made up of a couple of big pieces rather than teensy bits :P

i had done the oats thing for a year, i needed to switch it around because i was getting really sick of them.

i usually get my veggies in my sandwiched at lunch and dinner (these are the two variable meals). I just bought flaxseed oil again so that should help my fats,

ok how about some egg whites in the morning just a thought! olive oil is a good source of fats as well!

whats the "window" to be able to take dextrose pwo? i know you want to spike your insulin, but is there a time limit where after that it wont spike ur insulin and just turn into fat?

I eat eggs at night. I am not much of a morning eater, so i tend to eat mostly from 10 -10

What makes you think sugar automatically turns into fat?
