View Full Version : Bagels vs. Poptarts

I'm looking for a better breakfast alternative to poptarts. What do you guys think about bagels? For comparison here are the stats.
1 bagel: 290 cal, 58g carbs, 10g sugar, 10g protein, 380mg sodium, 3g fiber, and a good bit of vitamins and minerals.
1 poptart: 200 cal, 37g carbs, 20g sugar, 2g protein, 220mg sodium, a few vitamins and minerals.

I eat the poptarts because, A. I love them, B. I can get 800 calories from eating four of them, which is no problem. Add a big glass of milk and I get 1100 calories from breakfast, which is a great start to the 4000 I'm trying to eat. I figure two bagels and a big protein shake will get me near 1100 calories, and be a little healthier. They have a lot less sugar and sodium too. How much sodium is too much anyway? So, what do you all think?

I'd say anything is better than a pop tart.

Bagels are healthier than a poptart, but I would prefer something better such as oatmeal over high glycemic bagels...

The lesser of two evils :evillaugh

I would definatly get a tub of 100% rolled oats and some fat free milk, they only take a few minutes to make. You can also make a ton of other stuff if you have 10-15 minutes to cook in the morning.

I've got oats, I just rarely eat them. I'll eat some as I quit poptarts. I'm not a morning person, so I refuse to cook in the morning. When I get up, I want food, and I want it now.

That's also why I use the instant oats. Just make sure you don't get the ones with all the added sugar or flavouring. The instant packages are high in salt so you do need to be somewhat carefull.

I've got a big tub of Quaker oats, just plain old oats I think. I thought about mixing some whey in milk and pouring it over some oats. I used to put oats in my shakes, so it should be fine in a bowl. I'm just too damn lazy to do anything like cooking when I first wake up.

Must be real lazy. Throw oats in bowl, add water or milk, microwave. Tada. Add protein powder if you like. I swear it takes like 3 minutes.

That's not cooking. I'll be able to do that. I meant scrambling eggs or anything like that. As soon as my poptarts are gone, it's gonna be bagels and oatmeal.

Both of those foods are worthless if you ask me. Just a crapload of carbs and a small quantity of poor quality protein.

Cooking oats in a microwave isn't cooking, but scrambling eggs is?

Shao's oats take three mins. Scramled eggs in the microwave take like 90 secs. Half the time.

Sure. You crack the egg. Whip it up. Put it in the micro for a bit. Voila.
