I have been off and on searching for a picture of the guy...I can't remember his name.
For those that weren't there:
A powerlifter hit a 908lb Bench press after his wifepunched him in the head while hitting the smelling salts.
He got up and had blood running out of his eyes.
It was the awesomest thing I have ever seen.
Opinions are mixed as to why he was bleeding. I just want to see the damn picture.

btw, I remember seeing a strong man event where some dude's nose started gushing blood when he was doing deadlifts. Cool stuff:thumbup:

Ryan Kennelly. He had a bloody nose while benching and it ran all over his face. His eyes weren't bleeding.

His girlfriend is Kara Bohigan, a powerlifter.

damn..I was gonna guess Kennelly, but I didn't think he was a powerlifter. I thought he was just a bench press guy...teh benchmonster..lol.

And you all are impressed by this?

This doesn't sound like a prime candidate for the 2005 Darwin awards?

Why? Because he got a bloody nose?

Gyno I am not impressed by this.

Franco Coloumbo did all of his lits with out even changing his facial expression, just a calm look when he took a couple of WRs. And not wearing a homo suit either.

and he didnt use a belt, and he did a 750lbs dead at a bodyweight of 180lbs.

Why? Because he got a bloody nose?

I was talking about him getting punched in the head while dangling hundreds of pounds above his face.

As far as symbolism goes, I think gushing blood while straining one self sort of represents that whole "I'm giving it everything I got, I'm in a lot of pain, my body is pushed to the limit, things may look desperate but I can I need to keep trying" thing. Thats why some people might want the picture. Of course its not really any more impressive than doing the lift without bleeding or making faces.

did she not hit him before he got on the bench.
Is she hit him while on the bench, his lift would be disqualified for some one else touching the lifter.

Good point.

(It's still lame, though.)

Ya know...bleeding out the eyes shouldn't be part of your routine...

That was Svend Karlsen (VIKING POWER!) on the 4th or 5th rep. This was after he injured his left hammy during the squat lift and almost withdrew. Hardcore.

And when any of you guys can hit a 900lbs bench, then you earn the right to call this dude a f'n crazy idiot. :soapbox:

This was just a bench competition. I believe it was seperate from the powerlifting comp. I'm pretty sure he had his gf smack him before the lift, not sure if that caused the bleeding, or the ammonia he inhaled for adrenaline.

I was gonna gues it because I actually read something about his nosebleed in some magazine, although I'm sure it's happened before..lol.

I was there watching it live. She was slapping him before he got on the bench. I'm guessing a nail accidentally cut him and of course when your blood pressure changes under so much weight, it makes a little cut gush quite a bit.

I also saw that strongman from Ireland (I forget his name, the one with the HUGE gut). His nose started bleeding when he was doing that static hold. It was the ones where they hold onto those two vertical beams on either side of them (it kinda looked like the fingers aparatus). It was pretty hardcore too.

Uh...you actually have to ask that?

Superheavy or open, which I believe is anyone over 125 kg.

I figured he was SHW, but wasn't sure.

He probably got the weight up becuase he was pissed about her hurting him. I lift a lot heavier easier when I'm really pissed off. I wish I could have a few ex-girlfriends call me before I hit the gym everyday. Within 3 months I'd be putting Ronnie to shame.

Ok so I have a name..but that still ain't the pic.
He stood up and did an arms overhead victory thing imediately after racking it.
I could have sworn he had a goatee as well..I find that pictur odd becasue as soon as he turned to walk off he toweled his face.

Ok I was about to flame your punk ass since I was standing right beside you for the whole thing. But then I did a quick search.

That is the Mendelson Classic, at the FitExpo which was during the 3rd week of february.

So not the same comp, although the list of names is pretty much the same. I also was suspicious, since the posted thing is a march issue, and since the comp was begging of march, I can't see how they'd have all this stuff written up in the future, as most of these mags are done weeks in advance of printing.

It could very well just be a blood pressure nose bleed though. Given the arch that these guys use, the blood would probably flow upwards into the eyes, not down.

So that would make sense. Lol, maybe his wife just opened the cut from the previous comp at the arnold, like any good boxer should! :D
