Is it possible to eat too much protein. I was told by somebody that if you eat too much protein you could damage your liver, and I'd prefer that not to happen  . I was wondering, because today I had 280 grams of protein, but a total of 3550 calories. Is that too much for me, considering I'm 145 pounds and only 15?

i think some of the protein requirements that people throw out are excessive.

your body can only build so much muscle at one time.. eating too much is overkill, and too many calories can cause you to gain a little extra flab.

i think 1g per lb of bodyweight is plenty.

I'm assuming you've talked to your doctor about that. Last time I checked, you just can't look at your liver and see if it's okay. The liver isn't like a muscle and if something's wrong with it that it will hurt.

To the OP: common wisdom has bodybuilders on a bulk eat 1 to 1 1/2 times body weight in grams of protein. So, in your case, it would be around 200 grams max. Anything more is just wasted.

Not exactly WASTED - but as I understand it, it might get metabolized more like a carb.

With high protein diets, make sure you drink lots of water.
