View Full Version : How BIG do you want to be?
trich daddy

I want to wake up my roommate in the basement when I'm walking around...... on the 2nd story.
I want little children to hide behind their mothers at the grocery store and point and ask "what's wrong with that man?"
I want to only be able to buy hand-crafted, solid wood Amish furniture.... and then be forced to replace it annually.
When at a restaurant, I politely ask for the WHOLE water pitcher instead of constant refills, they look at my funny, I glare, and they quickly go get it for me. :evillaugh

I'm very Zen about it. I want to pack as much muscle onto my body as it will naturally hold.
Disclaimer: with no additional fat gain.
Hey, as long as I'm wishing!

yup, I want people to notice me blocks away! At my height, I wanna be wider than I am tall!
Well, you say that now.
But wait Until you cant sleep in any position, and your legs burn on the inside of the quads when you wake up. You use often 1-2hours on breakfast, and you have to eat all the time, **** all the time and you always have to worry about heart enlargement.
I experienced some of that when I went over to the dark side, and I just quit, I want to train to have fun and enjoy it, and I can still enjoy BB shows and stuff with out killing my self to be one off them.

OT: I don't want to get super huge- I want to be able to wear fancy clothing off the rack and I think that with another 20lbs of LBM I should be able to do it still... sorta...

RickTheDestroyer
08-18-2005, 07:32 PM
I'm shooting for 240-250, at a reasonable level of lean-ness.
I think I'd prefer to do this without any assistance, as I'm a wuss about needles- or at least about sticking them in myself.
I consider this a realistic goal, as I've got a pretty big frame- I'm about 200-205 right now, and I'm ridiculously weak and have a really meager amount of muscle mass.

How big do you want to be?
When I was younger, my training partner and I used to say "I want to get so big that people vomit when they see me!"
Now that I'm about 15 years older and 60lbs heavier, I wish I could lose weight and maintain my current numbers. I'm not fat, but the extra weight gets to be a nuisance sometimes. I love Dave Tate's "Reasons to be Big", but it's not all sh*ts and giggles...
Originally I was going for the justin timberlake look but after some thought I've decided to go for a lean 230lbs.

Do a bunch of coke and 9 hrs of cardio a day.
I am shooting for 280-300.
I want to be so big that people can't help but look.
I want to be so big that it takes 6 policemen and two tasers to bring me down.
I want to be so big that I take up two seats everywhere I go.
I want a 3 ft space cleared around me at all times from people afraid to get too close to me.
I want to be big enough and muscular enough to make 99.99% of the population have the "flight" instinct upon seeing me.

My idealisum after I compete in my current weight group By the time I'm about in my mid 20's I'd like to be around 240 with about 8 percent BF I'm just now strating to take my diet seriously so We will see where that takes us
i dont want to be butt-huge like arnold or anything, i just wanna be huge. like nice and defined all over, but with large and bold muscles. i want to be strong, big, and defined all in one... a bolder and stronger me, maybe a little taller, if you would.

I'm about as big as I want to be at ~260. I'd actually like to lean out to around 230 @ 7-8%. That's a pretty lofty goal since I love/am good at bulking and hate/dont respond well to cutting. After school I'd like to start trimming up, but knowing me, I'll weigh 285 at 15-17% in two years.

Right now my plan is to bulk to 240-250. This'll be only a few months after I'm 17 years old, though my build isn't so small so 250 on me won't be as big as most think. I'll be a ****ing monster though (fat too). Then I'm planning to cut down for the summer, 10% or so. I'd like to go lower but my vascularity becomes wicked when Im that low to the point where it's somewhat unattractive to woman. I plan to go lowest around fall, just to see what I can do :D.

I would be happy to be a lean 190-200lbs. Im 147 right now down from about 175 last winter. A demanding physical labor job and all the running I've been doing is really taking its toll. But I figure being this lean will make Basic Training a lot easier. Funny thing is, I've only lost about 30lbs on my major lifts after such a drastic weight loss.

Well at just under 6ft tall, Id like to be about 250-270 at 5-7% BF. Id like to get my chest up in the upper 60's (from the current 58 ) and my biceps around 22-24" (from 18.5). A nice big neck would be awesome as well, Id like about a 25" neck with traps that come up to my ears.
Wheels are another deal, Id like to see my quads get to about 38" or so... there 32" now but have about 2-3 inches of fat on them. Calfs I dont care about but progress is a global goal here so lets say 23-25".
If I can attain all that in the next 5-7 years Ill be happy.
EDIT:
And another goal (which I think will be the hardest to set) is to get a 38" waiste.

Well, I'm 6'3" and I think a realistic goal would be between 210-220 lbs, natural. That may not seem like a very lofty goal, but I've been having a very hard time getting into the gym in the last year, so I think it's realistic.

I really don't want to get too big. I'd like to keep the lean muscle mass up but the fat as low as possible (well actually around 9% is where I'd like to be permanently).
Bottom line: I want to be as big as it takes for ladies to say "wow he's buff/ripped". I want to be as big as it takes for a guy to start talking sh!t and then back down the second I take off my shirt.
But I'd also like to be big to the point where I am always accidentally breaking things because I can't control my strength LOL.
id rather me muscuar and ripped but not freakishlky big. I wanna look appealing and not like a freak.

that would be pretty funny to see at bars or on a street. One guy smack talking the other guy for no reason, something like "you are so gay dude, why are you wearing that pink shirt" Than you take off your pink shirt. The bar would be silent. Awesome.

Realistically I'd probably be happy with the build of one of those Men's Health guys, the ones who have a decent amount of muscle and are fairly lean. I've been training for almost 2 years and am now 6', 219, 12% bf or so, so I think that goal is a realistic one to aim for. However I'm not going to limit myself to that and I will keep lifting as long as I am motivated to do so, and will get as big as I can while remaining relatively lean.

I've read these posts with everyone slamming Justin Timberlake for being so scrawny, yet are some of you aware how hot he is to most girls?
Lean guys like him are my ideal and I'm very fit and somewhat strong.
Think about all the beautiful girls you have ever known, or hot celebrities you have ever wanted to be with, then look at how "small" their men are.
They may be tall in some cases, but not too muscular.
250 is REALLY heavy, even if it's all lean muscle.
I've been an athelete all my life, yet I couldn't handle a big man.
I once dated an amateur football player who was into BB. He was 5'10 and 210lbs, and very low BF. However, any time he accidentally stepped on my foot or grabbed my hand I always got bruised, I loathed him touching me.
He also breathed heavy, was always sweating even when it was freezing outside, was always eating, his skin was all hard and not fun to touch, too wide for movie theatre seats and intimidating to other men (people always wanted to fight him). The fact of looking huge is that a mob of guys will try to attack you at once, instead of one guy coming after you.
Now when I see really muscular men, it's somewhat of a turn off.
I think Justin's body is quite hot.
Sometimes the truth is painful.

Reading this post makes me wonder if you have noticed the NAME of the forum you are posting in, and "sometimes the truth is painful" almost made me fall out of my chair laughing; to insinuate that everyone else here must agree with your preferences/perceptions is just as ridiculous as anyone here expecting to tell you "what's hot and what's not".
The reality is that this is a board dedicated to strength and fitness athletics, called WANNABEBIG. I'm somewhat sympathetic to the apparently poor experience you had with some ex boyfriend but I can't see how that is in any way relevant to this thread.
I would take it as a personal favour if you would refrain in the future from proclaiming yourself as the arbiter of 'truth', especially with regard to opinions and conjectures.

Oh, and to answer the original question: I plan to eventually get up to ~225-230 at 9-10%. Currently at 12-13% and 210. I reckon that's near the limit of what i can expect to achieve natty and without completely insane diet/training control.
So you're stereotyping all big guys based on one douche you dated? And I do say douche because generally if you're a big guy and everyone wants to fight you, then you're carrying yourself like a cocky douche. All being big got me was a mob of people trying to be my friend.

The reality is that this is a board dedicated to strength and fitness athletics, called WANNABEBIG. I'm somewhat sympathetic to the apparently poor experience you had with some ex boyfriend but I can't see how that is in any way relevant to this thread.

I see I've offened you, so I must appologize to you and the lifting community. I will watch my words. I wasn't the one who brought up Justin Timberlake in the first place, I think that he is starting to work hard on his body just like evryone else, so it's not fair to make fun of people who are his size that's all.

I hear many woman say they like "athletic and lean", yet I rarely see any big big guys without sexy women. I do however see "athletic, lean" guys alone very often.
Not to say you have to be big to get more woman, but I think most woman on a sub-concious DO enjoy it.

I tend to agree with largelegsbuthot from my own personal experience, but it is also true that everyone has different tastes. Unfortunately, the impact Hollywood has on what should be hot or not definitely shifts most people's perspectives on what they think looks good.

In all fairness to LLBH, she does have a point. Typically it's leanness that is "attractive" to the average female, as far as looks go. Far more than size alone.
But if I cared what women thought, I'd have abs, a metrosexual haircut, and watch Lifetime instead of being the big sexy bald stud I am.

I'm not following this scenario. There aren't that many ripped men out there (in comparison to every other body type). There's going to be a greater ratio of skinny guys to buff guys. Of course there's going to be girls with skinnier guys because there's an overabundance of them. When there's a noticeably bigger guy walking around, he's bound to catch some girls' eyes.
You're making it seem as though it's a horrible thing to be bigger than Justin Timberlake and if you're bigger you should give up all hope of getting women or something. Guess what? HE's JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. We're not celebrities, we're just your average weightlifing chums trying to rise above ourselves to keep on improving our bodies with each and every day. I want to be noticeably big, meaning I won't have to take my shirt off to show people I have abs. Arms that stretch sleeves with a big chest and broad shoulders filling out every square inch of my shirt, with a tapered V-shape to add to everything else, I don't see a problem with this. If I had a choice, being skinny would not even cross my mind. Being skinny sucks. I never got nearly as much attention as I do now when I was skinny...er. I'm still nowhere near what I want to be, but as I continue to grow, I seem to get more smiling faces when I'm walking around the mall or the movies or wherever. It's a nice feeling.

Women do have different tastes but I think on average the lean athletic type appeals to a wider variety. Not every woman (or man) will appreciate how much hard work goes into maintaining a 10% 200+ pound body.
The idea of me 'hulking out' repulses my gf. She'd love to see me drop 20% body fat for my health's sake but thinks benching 135 is more than strong enough and that I should work on maintaining that and focus on cardio. I say I'd like twice that and she looks at me like I'm insane.

Let's see-
1000 crunches- check (Probably there's more than this- but I'd bet it's all unweighted variations, though his abs still look terrible for someone that lean...)
dumbbell curls- check (My guess is these are the variety done with 15-20 pounds in each hand, with as much leaning and cheating as possible)
light bench- check (probably similar to the curls...)
too much cardio- check.
Yup. I'm sure he really busts his ass compared to most of the people on this board. You're absolutely correct- thank you for showing me the error of my ways.
I know that some women prefer guys who look like skinny 15-year-olds. Those are not the women I am trying to attract. If they were- I'd stop eating, and start running and doing crunches all day. Then to maximize the J-Tim effect I'd glue some pubes to my head.

Well I disagree about women liking the athletic, lean type. To some degree yes.. but I've found (in my area at least) that they are more attracted to a bigger guy with some chub on them. 75% of the girls around here (PHOENIX area), I've found that if they're with a guy thats semi-big and ripped, they're heads are so far up in the sky its not even worth talking to them.
2 months ago I was 225@10% bodyfat....Being that I'm 6'0 that's not that big (IMO). Wearing my regular shirts didn't show off anything and I can't wear tank tops or wife beaters while I'm working. As I'm sure plenty of you know... I work as a bouncer at a club 5 nights per week. I would get an occasional flirty girl come up to me everyonce in a while.. but nothing serious. Now that I've started eating in the range of 4000cals per day and I'm in a huge anabolic state right now, I'm rounding the low 260's right now at roughly 15-17% bodyfat. I don't have a 6 pack, but a chubby pooch instead. ALOT of my vascularity has disappeared (think chest and upper arms), and my legs have taken a good bit of chub as well. But all together, I create a much larger presence and now I get hit on by 2-3 different girls every night. I've been looking for a stead girl for a while now, and I found one a few weeks ago... I'm not sure it would have happened if I was still 10%... soooooooooo I vote for larger and in the 15% range, although I would rather be super huge in the 8% range. :evillaugh
I could just be talking out of my ass though, so I'm not even entirely sure. And BTW, she pats my belly and tells me how cute it is. w00t!

She just wants me to be healthy and to not kill myself (there are *no* spotters and I took the 6th rep of a 135 set across my chest last week. I went to rerack and one side missed. It happens.) Honestly, if I dropped to 165 and 15% BF and never increased a lift again in my life she'd think I met my 'healthy' goal. My heart is what she wants healthy. Plus, I dropped 20 pounds on a cardio and machine circuit routine earlier this year (didn't change my diet at the time.. just added 500 cals of cardio a day) so it's not unreasonable for her to expect I could drop another 20 that way.
Sex we've never been able to get to work properly so is largely out. Can't say either of us are happy about that. :whiner:
Weight-training for the past month HAS helped my heart, though. Busting my butt doing cardio: Starting RHR 75 bpm (yeah)... after a month RHR 75 bpm. Weight training without cardito: Starting RHR 79 bpm. current RHR 59 bpm. Before: Running one mile = panting, nearly puking, wheezing for an hour. Now: Breath heavy for two minutes, sweat a bit.
So bring on the weights! :strong:

Weight training is an excellent exercise for the heart. When lifting your heart goes under a different stress than if you were doing cardio. It gives your heart that "explosiveness" while cardio gives it that endurance.

It seems everyone is looking for black and white in a world of nothing but gray. Women love scrawny doods, women love thick doods, women love all kinds of guys and some women couldn't care less how much muscle their partner has.
The unfortunate thing for me, and some other men I think, is that women aren't necessarily attracted to what we find appealing about our own sex (ie muscles, hugeness, strength).
That's about the only thing I've been able to figure out. My current girlfriend was asking me this weekend how big I wanted to get, because she liked me how I am now. I said I'd like to gain another 30-35 pounds when it's all said and done. Her response: "Ew, why? I don't want you to look like a bodybuilder." I just laughed and said "...well, I'm gonna try anyway."

I go to Miami to get my share of Cuban (and I know some awesome Cuban muscle in Miami). Prada is a wonderful thing (especially when it's on sale).

Not to hijack the thread but designer sweaters are sooo overpriced.... shoes, jackets, and jeans are pretty much the only things truly worth it because they can last years. Shirts/sweaters and other delicate things die very quickly and usually cost much more than the durable goods. Plus, to keep this somewhat on topic, as you get HYUUUGER than HYUUUUGE your feet won't get bigger but everything else in yuor wardrobe will need replacement. (If BCC fits into a Prada shirt w/out tearing a seam I'll die of amazement).

Plus, I dropped 20 pounds on a cardio and machine circuit routine earlier this year (didn't change my diet at the time.. just added 500 cals of cardio a day) so it's not unreasonable for her to expect I could drop another 20 that way.
Here's the thing though. Simple math...
500 calories from cardio a day a.) takes time because you are obviously running for more than just 20 minutes and you're supposedly going every day and b.) cardio can start to be catabolic...
Now you have to be at an overall deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 lb of fat. ONE POUND OF F*CKING FAT! Math is math there is no way around it. Congratulations spending as much time at the gym as you had (or wherever you spent your cardio time) you lost one lb per week. Now if you had just taken 500 calories out of your diet each day you would barely notice the difference, wouldn't have spent so much time on losing weight, wouldn't have to go to the gym all the time, and would have saved money on food.
If you're doing cardio every day to lose 20lbs in one year that's a sh!tload of time for 20lbs. I lost 10lbs in 6 weeks just by eating less. It would be ridiculously easy to do it again if I felt like it. And the funny thing is I was still eating HORRIBLE food when I was losing weight. I lost weight while eating donuts and Panda Express... if that isn't the life then I don't know what is.
And BTW about the sex thing whenever I recommend it I do so half-heartedly so don't take the suggestion as the word of god or anything. I agree with the person (sorry don't remember whom it was) who said that you should look at a doctor or therapy. If someone can't have sex because it hurts too much I would think you would be insane not to see a doctor. That is a serious thing and should be treated thus... and there is always the possibility that it is something in her head and not an actual physical injury.

40 minutes on the body track or rowing machine, plus I did about 20 minutes of the weights in the circuit room... aiming for 8 to 12 reps.
My diet was, calorie wise, about where it is now.... 1700 to 2100... mostly consisting of rice cripy bars for a 300 cal breakfast and Wendys for a 1500 cal dinner. I shudder to think what my F/C/P pie looked like. I lost those twenty in two months.
I'd never heard of catabolic, was aware that meat had protein (that's why I had a burger a day. Surely that would be enough protein for anyone!), and thought that going every day was 'hardcore'.
Strength (by the measuring of the iso machine weights) was going up, weight was going down... body composition was not changing in the slightest. That just meant I should add a second cardio routine before work!
I burned out. I stayed out of the gym until they called asking if I wanted to renew my membership (the weight didn't come back after I stopped going). I said yes and hit the net resolving to do things better this time. And here I am.
Want to be stronger. Big is a nice side effect of that. Ripped is an even nicer one.

Well you're at the right place. And I was not aware that you lost it in 2 months, that actually is really good.

One of my friend's friend's bought some jeans that were 120$!!!!!! They were the kind that had the artificial stains and holes in them. If that continues, I could be a millionaire by sending the contents of my closet to a yardsale.

Actually, that's not always true. Read on...
"The energy equivalent of a pound of fat is 3500 calories; therefore, dieters have been told they will lose a pound for every 3500-calorie reduction in their diet. This conclusion is false. Why? Set points and metabolism."
"Another way our bodies maintain fat is that fat tissue has a low metabolic rate. Compared with other tissue, fat takes less food energy to maintain. Thus, once we become fat, we require less food to maintain our weight than we did to attain it. The "weight thermostat" of an obese person's body is set to maintain body weight within a higher-than-average range. When weight drops below the set-point range, the persons hunger increases and metabolism decreases. In a classic experiment, obese patients whose daily food intake was reduced from 3500 to 450 calories lost only 6 percent of their weight-party because their metabolic rates dropped about 15 percent. Thus, the body adapts to starvation by burning off fewer calories, and to extra calories by burning off more. That is why reducing your food intake by 3500 calories may not reduce your weight by 1 pound. That is why further weight loss comes slowly following the rapid weight losses that occur during the initial three weeks or so of a rigorous diet. And that is why when a diet ends, amounts of food that worked to maintain weight before the diet may increase it, because the body is still conserving energy."

But HahnB admit that diet is 10x easier than cardio to create a caloric deficit...
And BTW actually that's something I've always wondered so you actually have taught me something today.
