Well I've decided to start a journal since I don't really have anything better to do. I lifted for about a year, then went off to college (uconn) but barely lifted up there because the gym was just really anoying not enough equipment for the amount of people, but when i came home at hte begining of may i started to lift again up until the begining of july. At that time i weighed about 155 pounds, I was benching 165 for my last set and deadlifts were 205 last set, and squat was 185 last set. At the begining of july I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, spent three weeks in the hospital and lost 25 pounds. I currently weigh 132 pounds and i'm 5'8 and 19 years old. It's amazing how quickly your body will deteriorate, i pretty much watched all the muscle i had gained vanish in the mirror from day to day. Ive been outa the hopsital for about 3-4 weeks now, and couldn't stay away from the gym heh this will be my second week back in the gym. I'm definatley attempting a bulk but its pretty hard considering diet limitations due to ulcerative colitis. I will be doing a 4 day split, Chest/tris, Bis/back, off day, shoulders, legs, off day, off day. back was yesterday and chest was teh day before that so here is what I did...I dont have a spot and last week i did all DB's so this week i used the smith machine cuz i wanted to use a bar dont make fun :)

to finsih chest i did a few sets of dips on the weight assisted machine (can't even do more than 2 dips anymore of my body weight :( )

Sorry this is so long ill be surprised if anyone actually gets through it, but i guess my goals since im taking first semester off from school are to gain 20-25 pounds by the end of january...i know the weight on my sets will go up pretty quickly again so id like to be where i left off before i went into the hospital by this time as well if not higher.

totals 2294 calories, 54 fat, 179 carbs, 215 protein

carbs and proteins are kinda high i think, because of my illness im supposed to limit my dairy intake and fiber intake for a while. thats why i ate the white bread for my sandwhich, and unfortunatley there isnt any cheese in my diet yet, which would be an easy way to get some extra cals/fat...any suggestions for getting some extra calories or any replies would be great, thanks guys

well had to take past 2 days off due to getting an infusion/slight flare up of the colitis, but i will be doing shoulders tomorrow morning. weighed in at the doctors today at 60.6 kilograms about 133 pounds with clothes/sneakers on, doesnt looked like i gained any weight in the past week...ah well im in for the long haul.

Hey, great workout there - glad to see you're hittin it fast after getting back out of the hospital. I'm sure your numbers will skyrocket up right now. A good suggestion for getting some more calories into your diet is tuna (comes in cans, buy a case and it's cheaper) and then if you want to cook anything (spinach/other veggies) use olive oil, it's fat but it's the "good kind" that your body wants anyway. Hey, a question about colitis - it runs in my best friend's family, and I'd like to know more about it. Anything I can encourage my best friend to do to prevent it/mitigate its effects? Only if you don't mind sharing. Glad to see your numbers on the rise already.

thanks for the responses, i actually got sick again between my last post in august and hte one i just posted yesterday, so those numbers are only after lifting for a week or so again but im feeling a lot stronger now, today was a rest day but tomorrow is back...last week i deadlifted 115x6 so im gonna go for 135x4 tomorrow, its weird but i can deadlift like double what i can bench or squat...go figure

ah sorry to hear that man, right now im on prednisone, 6-mp, flagyl, and i just had a remicade infusion...but i seem to be in remission at the moment and will be off flagyl in a few days, and the prednisone their also tapering off.

The problem with mine was it dropped my blood pressure really low, and shutdown my kidneys...all seems to be better now though...*knocks on wood*

Great progress bro, keep it up. It seems everyone I know recommends doing less reps on your sets - have you considered goin for higher weight and 4-8 reps in lieu of lower weight in the 10 rep range?

Suggestion re deads -- drop the 115 and begin with 1 pps, then work your way up in poundages.

Now that 205 is literally around the corner, you'll probably find that 115 barely begins to get you warmed up.

mcirish-i always seem to underestimate myself haha thats why my first set i usually get 10 and then realize its to lite and go heavier, i try to make my second and third sets in the 6-8 rep range

soba-yea next week ill def drop the 115, only reason i did it this week was because i didnt think id come close to 185, since last week 165 was a b*tch haha...what do you mean by 1 pps?

haha, thanks for the comments...actually ive gained back all the weight but pretty much in the last month. i was 156 on the scale at the gym today. i think its because of the prednisone tho, ah well feels good to not be so skinny even if most of it is fat. i figure ill keep tryin to gain weight till after xmas/new years, and then start a cut to get a lot of the fat i gained down. unless i gain another 16 pounds this month, because then im pretty sure i wont be able to stand myself haha.

felt pretty good today, had a lot of sleep last night but didnt attepmt 205 on deadlifts yet, im pretty sure i could get it for 1 but i usually end with deadlifts, i should probably start with them. i can also do 2 pull ups now haha, maybe in a few more weeks ill be able to get 10 or 12 like i used to. weighed in at 160 today which is also strange, i think the prednisone im on is really making me gain a lot of weight, since i never gained weight this easily before mostly fat tho ah well....

Hey man, just read the intro to your journal. Good luck with your lifting and most important your health. Just eat like a champ, as much as you can, and lift big :D One day itll click and everything starts snowballing from there. I started around your weight 135, and got upto 170. But I let myself go, and now I have a broken clavicle :( Im around 158 right now, but no where near as solid as before.

Keep it up man! Check out my lameass journal too if you'd like, no numbers in there yet, just rantings.

thanks man, i weighed in at 161 yesterday in the gym haha, i havent been strict on my diet so ive gained fat with the muscle, id guess im around 18-20% bf right now. i know prednisone makes u gain weight but this is a lot of weight ive gained in about 3 months, 30 pounds about. i think ill be able to get to 170 and then i figure ill start a cut after the holidays and shed the fat i gained, im just not ready to be strict on diet yet after not bein able to eat what i wanted for a while haha, ill check out ur journal now too

Looks like youve made some great gains, for me 170 was the wall. I flirted with 172, but it took so much food etc. But youre doing great man! Keep it up :D
