heh.. I can't help ya!

I just started Squating last night.

Damn, the bar hurt the back of my neck. I had it on my shoulders, but my neck is sore today and tender on the area where the bar goes across...

Any tips? I see a foam peice I can put on the bar.. do you guys use that?

Nothing wrong with putting the foam on. Why be uncomfortable when you don`t have to?

Make sure your contracting your trap muscles and rest the bar right in the groove of them, not on your neck. Your neck shouldn't be sore or have a bruise from the bar if you do them correctly.

Only pussies use that foam thing. It creates a gap between the bar and your neck. The further away from your body the bar is, the less control you've got. It could slip off in the middle of a set, snatch your attention away from the lift, alot of things. Find the right bar placement, and just use the bar. No towel, no nothing. You'll be a man soon enough.. ;-)

keep the bar on your traps and you should feel no pain

wear a sweatshirt if you want to.

I find court shoes to be more stable than runners but the difference isn't worth worrying about

I was thinking of the same thing Cobra. If I were to use one of those foam pads in my PL club they would laugh me out of the gym.
Cobras right don't use the pad, once you get your traps built up you will hardly even notice the bar.
As far as shoes go some of the boys I know use work boots, it lessons the tendacy to lean backwards.

Funny you'd say that since those pretty little foam pads aren't allowed in competition. That man used no foam crap when he squatted 1014. Maybe he promotes them now, along with his millions of other little products, but he didn't use the thing in competition.

Yes I am well aware pads are not allow in competitions, but he did use them to train.

Definitely flat soled shoes are a must. if weight starts to shift foward on the feet for any reason, that can spell death to the knee...

ya
don't bother with the foam or towel sh*t. after awhile you'll get used to the bar. u just gotta find the spot where the bar is most comfortable.

doc:
i agree. my running shoes are no good for squatting. they are too high at the back so they put me on a bad angle. i can't afford to buy new shoes so for here on in i'm squatting in my barefeet.
