supplements are exactly that, a supplement for a solid training program and good diet.
Sure, you could benefit from some protein powder and creatine also.
Check out www.atlargenutrition.com for those.

Cant stress it enough...theres no supplement to supplement a crappy training routine and diet. If you feel that your up to par in both of those areas then have:
1)Multivitamin
2)creatine (if you choose)
3)ETS from atlarge (idk how i never had it)
4)whey

the above list is good
I would say a novice doesn't need creatine, and might want an all purpose protein mix/blend instead of whey, but just my opinion

alright so perhaps save the creatine til i progress further and just go with some mutlivitamins and whey protien for starting out? ....thanks alot guys....also one more thing...what should my diet focus on? just a standard healthy VEGetables and fruits a day type thing? or is there more to it?

Yeah, but all those three-page ads in Muscle & Fitness! Those guys are huge!
just....soooo....tempting...
Someone has in their signature: Squats are better than supplements. I wanted to put that on my license plate, but it won't fit.
That said, there probably is room for some supplementation to increase your training gains.
But certainly you should eat well (and often!) with about 1 to 1.g of protein per pound of body weight each day. A multi-vitamin is key. Creatine powder is cheap, so it couldn't hurt to try it. If you can't get enough protein, you may want to get a protein powder. A lot of poeple here like Optimum nutrition or AtLarge's products.
Stuff you DON'T need: Anything with "NO" in it's name. In a lot of people's opinions here, nitric oxide supps are worthless to all except the companies themselves.

There is no supplement that does most of the work. They help, but do not depend on them as a crutch. They won't replace crappy diet and training practices.
