Dear Lifters,

My question is quite simple really. I have been lifting wieghts to improve my martial arts techniques, to develop faster and stronger puches, kicks, knees and elbows. My instructor has advised me to mix Whey protein and creatin together to pack on more muscle. However, my friend who is a bodybuilder said I should take a muscle and wieght gainer. Who do I listen to, my instructor who has helped me build up my confidence and who i trust without question, or my bodybuilding friend who i have known for a decade.

You guys all sound like you know your stuff so I'll listen to what you say!!

Cheers
Ben

Theoretically, both.

Creatine and whey will absolutely help you increase muscle mass, endurance, and should decrease DOMs. A weight gainer should help you pack on weight. Both of these statements are predicated on the assumption that you have a good weightlifting routine and a good diet; coupled with those two things, either course will help you out. If you were to ask me what to do, I'd probably say use the whey and creatine, and get the "weight gainer" from actual food.

A "weight-gainer" is pretty much whey protein with added carbohydrates.

Unless they have changed alot since I actually looked at them 6 years ago in high school, but I doubt that.

Do you want to gain weight?

What is your bodyfat situation like ?

Are you competing in a specific weightclass?

Most of the guys I studied MA with were skinny with six packs from all the abdominal training.

I think weight gainers are a waste of money, eat food. Just take whey protein and some creatine and you will be fine. It has helped me lots.
